Live report from Thessaloniki 21.06 / IMC Sweden
Translation for IMC UK

Thessaloniki Saturday 21 of June
The day has been rather stormy, and at times, IMC on site have had no connection due to technical problems. Therefore, unfortunately, the reporting have not been as fluid as it should.

Here follows a short summary:
A block of 3000 people (anarchist/anti-authoritarian) left the university to converge with the larger demonstration. Clashes with police occurred, resulting in a division of the block into two groups. One group of the demonstration moved back towards the University, where further clashes and street fights with the police took place. The other group, moved towards the city centre, where a bank, a McDonald’s and yet two more shops were vandalised. The police fired large amounts of teargas towards both groups.

For a while the University, was almost completly surrounded by the police, but the police have now, late [Saturday] evening, withdrawn from location. The police never stormed the University [which rules under immunity law], neither received permission from the University board to enter the buildings and arrest people inside the area. Earliest 07.00 o’clock tomorrow morning; Sunday 22 June, the police can obtain permission from the University board to do so. At this point, everything is back to calmness in the area, and most people are sleeping. A solidarity action is planned for tomorrow, in support of the people who has been arrested.

Article: Thessaloniki: lördag 21 juni
 http://se.indymedia.org/feature/display/43366/index.php
