Manuel | 03.10.2004 14:41 | European Social Forum | Globalisation | London

We are a group of 200 activist from Spain and we are totally esceptic about ESF organitation. Since a mounth time, we already bouhgt the acreditations, and sort out in Spain all relative to travelling to ESF, difussion of event and everything. But still today, we are trying to agree or especting for news about accomodation in London. Is there a sport gym or whatever where we can sleep? Alternatives?.........etc.

Plese contact anyone soon to see if we can trust in the organitation or direcly t knoe what to do.

Thanks.

Go al ' Alternative'ESF. Proporcionarán la comodidad también.

Autonomous Spanish in London

04.10.2004 11:20

sigh

04.10.2004 11:53

The SWP, Ken Livingstone and the police are all working together to halt the anti-capitalist movement. They will put all autonomists and anarchists together, and shoot them all. These awful authoritarian Trots are as bad as fascists...death the the BNP/SWP alliance!

sigh

indeed...you are so right. The SWP voted for Stalinist GLA officials over democratic socialists on platforms, including the Mayor's advisor on policing.

real sigh

Accomodation Crisis

05.10.2004 09:26

Well the GLA are now taking this seriously. I think they have realised there are two problems:

1) If they do not say something concrete in the next few days to assure thousands of people wanting to come that free (or very cheap) accomodation will be available, then those thousands will not buy tickets and will not come.

2) It will look very bad for the GLA, if at 10pm on friday of the ESF there are 300 or more people with ruck sacks at Alexandra Palace demanding a place to sleep because they cannot afford to pay 15 - 25 quid a night. If the GLA cannot sort out a few thousand european visitors who are happy to sleep in communal accomodation, how on earth are they expected to deal with the Olympics in 2012?

So, you can expect some announcement very soon!

That's not to say they haven't stuffed it up, just that they now realise this and are trying to sort something.

Some thoughts

Accomodation crises

05.10.2004 13:35

The accomodation crisis could easily have been avoided by taking the ESF out of the hands of the SWP and leaving it to the A-A-Anarchists. Then there would have been (in this order) much talk, no ESF, (and therefore) no ESF accomodation crisis :-)

ESF London

08.10.2004 08:22

The ESF Accomodation Crisis would have easily been avoided by not hosting the ESF in London. A city that's unable to cater for mass tansport, good health services and decent food obviously cannot cope with a few thousands european visitors.

Unless the visitors are prepared to pay...

Welcome to Tatcherland.

Delusions of the NANA's (non-aligned non-activisits)

11.10.2004 11:56

Yes that would be smart wouldn't it.

Lets miss the opportunity to hold the ESF is the biggest conurbation in western Europe, home to one of the largest anti-war movements in history, home to some of the strongest trade unions in the world, home to millions of ordinary working people, home of Blair the butcher of Iraq...

...and place it 'somewhere else' (unspecified).

Yes please go ahead and implement this strategy...oh what's that...you dont have the ability to do a thing other than complain and snipe in this gossip cess pit?

Oh well, sit down then.

accomodation crises

11.10.2004 14:41

having read some of the responses to the accomdation problem all i can say is what a load of rubbish some of the anti-swp lot spout on this webpage. i have my critisms of the org but if a large org like them cant arrange org then i doubt a couple of anarcho's who refuse to work with anyone other than themselves could have done it any better.
i would like to know how exaclty these anarcho's would have arranged accom for up to 30,000 and also arranged speakers etc from trade unions and other affliated groups if they refuse to work with them (as this happens at the moment)
so go one critise the SWP for being the largest group and for trying to steer the movement onto thier way of thinking (as we all try too oursevles) but dont slag them off for something you couldnt do yourselves.
