Bring the War Home, meeting. London

In Arms Reach | 11.11.2004 22:10 | Anti-militarism | Culture | Globalisation

So far 100,000 Iraqis have been killed as a direct consequence of the US and UK led war on Iraq. It's about time it stopped.

Open meeting to discuss ending the Iraqi war and Occupation through sustained grassroots direct action.

Monday 22nd November @ London Action Resource Centre (www.londonarc.org.uk), 6.30 for 7.00pm start.

Open to all who are willing to work within PGA Hallmarks (sorry we don't do hierachy or newspaper selling).

The meeting has been called by a hodge-podge of London anarchists, and activists who are sick of pointless A to B marching, and obsessing over how many x people are in Trafalgar Square when it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to what the UK or US government is going to do.

Come talk about ideas, and lets put them into action!

Sounds good but...

Hey this sounds good in a time when nothing is really going on that seems to make any difference. A concern here would be that this just establishes another (anarchist) group that does one or two slightly more direct things but may also endlessly complain that other activists / non-activists should be more radical and end up frsutrated that they aren't. It also seems too public to be effective given that police / state surveillance, infiltration, FIT teams, home visits etc will just become to heavy.
In terms of 'bringing the war home', it seems that what would be more effective than a new more radical group that does co-ordinated things would be to have no group but to use ALL networks to encourage an on-going campaign of anonymous direct action and sabotage against business and miltary premises. In this way, anonymous groups can act without the need for too much fuss and be effective in keeping up a sustained campaign against the war. Kind of like how successful the Animal Liberation Front has been in the UK. So much so that large City investors appealed to government to sort it out! The anti-war 'movement' is incapable of stopping this war - what might work would be continuous attacks on pretty much any bank, investment house, american chainstores etc etc. as wide as possible in terms of targets and timing. The attacks do not even have to be claimed or posted up, as long as a lot of stuff is happening, the Govt will work it out soon enough. Alongside mounting pressure from soldier's families on the Govt. This is pretty much a Vietnam-era scenrio and it definitely had effect against that war. No surprise that 'Bring The War Home' is a slogan from those times. I know that this is a tall order and no substitute for mass angry action on the streets but that ain't happening despite the mass slaughter in Iraq. I post this for comment and criticism but towards action against war and capitalism.
