Considering that there was less than 50 people on this demo it was absolutely deafening. Imagine watching Motorhead with a hangover. When the demo moved from the side to the front of the building the cops lost it completly and imposed a section 40 (I think thats what they called it) and nicked two people including an accredited journo. Anyway a nice noisy start to our campaign to welcome the G8 to our shores.

End Of The Snow On Mount Kilimanjaro

15.03.2005 23:11

The snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro has melted away to reveal the tip of the African peak for the first time in 11,000 years. The glaciers and snow which kept the summit white have almost completely disappeared.Although scientists had predicted the melt would happen, it is 15 years sooner than they had predicted.

The white peak of the 19,340ft mountain has long formed a stunning part of Tanzanian landscape, not least because it is only 200 miles south of the equator.

The photograph is part of the NorthSouthEastWest exhibition by The Climate Group, a book of which will be presented to ministers at the G8 energy and environment summit in London.

Steve Howard of The Climate Group said: "Climate change is real. So are the solutions, which are practical, affordable and in many cases, profitable.

"This exhibition shows us that a low-carbon economy is the only sustainable future for our planet."

The G8 meeting comes a day after the WWF warned Himalayan glaciers are receding at among the fastest rates in the world because of global warming.

The environmental group warned that the melting could result in water shortages for millions of people who rely on rivers supplied by the glaciers in China, India and Nepal.

Anti-terror

>cops lost it completly and imposed a section 40

Isn't that anti-terrorism? So they got scared over 50 jazz terrorists? Wonderfull!

Rich

It was a Section 14.

16.03.2005 08:22

From Liberty website.

"Section 14 allows a senior police officer to impose (only the minimum necessary) restrictions upon a public assembly if he reasonably believes that it may result in serious public disorder, damage to property or the disruption to the life of the community."

The last I heard, outside Wood Street Detention Zone at 10pm, was that the two courageous people arrested has been charged with somethingorother.

Mr Wasthere.

I, JAZZ TERRORIST

16.03.2005 10:26

hello lovely listeners,

i am proud to have been able to contribute to the noise protest with
my little wooden spoon and tiny pan in severe conflict with each other.
i like the idea of calling myself a "jazz terrorist", cos i
certainly massacred any form of music in my performance.

also, being the world's top protest leafleteer, i was pleased to
be able to widen the scope of the dissent by handing out info on
the main street, because the protest had been confined to a side
street by the lovely men in yellow jackets (thanks for coming, guys).

MS BEAUTIFUL went by bike to get lots of leaflets photocopied when
we ran out, because i was too successful in communicating with london.
MANY KISSES TO HER. WITHOUT HER, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE.

lorra lorra love and protest power,

josiebelle

Arrested jounalist

17.03.2005 12:40

I am the journalist who was arrested on Tuesday.

I was violently arrested when police tried to puch me into the group of protesters who were being forced down a side street. I had already shown officers my press card after being stopped while filming just a few minutes before.

I was detained at Wood Street police station for 10 hours before being released with bail conditions that prevent me from entering The City of London or from atteneding events taking place in Derby on thursday the 18th.

My camera and footage were retain by police despite my protests that I need the equipment for my work and that I would loss potential outlets for my footage if I was further delayed.

I will be pleading not guilty to charges under section 14 of the public order act when I attend the city of london magistrates court at 10am on Friday 19th March.
