Daily News from Palestine for 11th May 2006 - mp3 10M

Israeli troops arrested ten residents from the West Bank city of Nablus, Thursday morning

Troops invaded the city, and conducted a wide scale search campaign in several neighborhoods, with special concentration on the old city area and Asskar refugee camp.

The names known of those arrested, include Mohamed Da'dass, 19, Mohamed Al Telk, 19, Ra'ed Abu Arab, 20, Majed Abu Thra'e , Amjad MAbroka, 24.

Resident arrested east of Bethlehem

Israeli armed forces arrested Mohamed Nawaora, from Al Doha town, east of the West Bank city of Bethlehem, on Thursday at dawn.

Nawaora was arrested when troops stormed the village, surrounded his home and searched it, it is not known to where he was taken, his family reported.

Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses reported on Wednesday at night that Israeli fighter -jets fired at least two missiles at locations in Al Mawassi area, in Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The first missile landed close to a training location used by Salah Ed Deen Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, while the second missile landed near a training camp that belongs to Abu Al Reesh Brigades, the military wing of Fateh

No injuries were reported from either attacks, Palestinian sources reported

On Tuesday morning, three civilians were injured after the Israeli army fired with heavy artillery at the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Moawiya Hassanen, head of the Emergency Unit at the Palestinian Ministry of Health, reported that two women were hospitalized in Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia. Another resident was injured after the army shelled an area near the American School in Beit Lahia, Al Soudaniyya area, and Abu Khousa area, all in the northern part of the Gaza Strip; several buildings sustained damages.
From Gaza Abu Sari the spokes person of the Abu Al Reesh Brigades comments on the air strikes:

Actuality : There were no shooting or clashes in the place that was shelled. The Zionist state always claims that to justify its killing of the resistance men and the elderly and children. Their slogan is safety and security for the Israelis and death to the Palestinians.

Army invades the West Bank city of Jenin; five children injured and two arrested

The Israeli army invades the West Bank city of Jenin and injure two children on Thursday morning

More than 20 armored vehicles entered the city and surrounded several houses in the city center including the Saleh Al Sa'di residence The troops arrested him and Mohamed Al Qot after searching his home.
Troops also fired; at school students on their way to school, injuring two of them. No names have been issued
According to local sources, clashes erupted between the invading troops and stone -throwing children. The military operation is ongoing across the city.
Reporting from Jenin we hear from Ali Samudi of the Palestinian News net work (PNN)
Actuality: Five injured most of them children in clashes in the city during an Israeli military operation which involved more than 20 jeeps in the eastern neighborhood of the city. The army arrested Saleh Al Sa'di, the leader of Al Qudes brigades, clashes erupted between the resistors and school children against the army, several homes were searched and damage was reported.

The Bethlehem area is suffering a serious gas shortage which if continued will paralyze traffic.
Prices were already high, but have now skyrocketed. Lines of cars are waiting at the gas station located near the new Israeli Wall surrounding Rachel’s Tomb in northern Bethlehem. The only station left with a supply. Almost all the stations throughout Beit Sahour, Beit Jala and the villages are empty.
One of the many Palestinians waiting in line said that even if they can find gas it is unaffordable, but as all routes out of Bethlehem are routinely closed to Palestinians, the space in which to expend fuel is extremely limited.
Palestinians pay 6 shekels, which is equal to 1 dollar and 40 cents for one liter, while Americans pay 2 dollars for one gallon. (1 gallon = 3.8 liters). This means that the Palestinian citizen pays 3 times the amount an American would pay for gas, given that the average American earns triple the amount a well paid Palestinian earns.
Sources in the Petroleum Authority of the Bethlehem District reported Wednesday that all kinds of gas are almost gone, noting that 300,000 liters per day are used by cars in the Bethlehem area alone.
In light of the situation, Palestinians working in 16 gas stations are organizing a nonviolent demonstration against the Israeli company that is controlling the situation. They say that this crisis is part and parcel to the collective punishment imposed on the Palestinian public since they went to the ballot boxes in January, electing the Hamas party to the Palestinian Legislative Council.
The crisis is expected to spread to all Palestinian districts in the coming few days. The Gas crisis come together with the salaries crisis which is resulted from the booycott the US and the EU imposed on the Palestinian Authority thoroughly which funds are not allowed to reach the Palestinian areas.
We speak with Dr Mohamed Awwadah the director of the Ambulance and emergency department of the West bank Palestinian Red Crescent Society .
Actuality : The situation is very bad, if this lasts for more two days we will be forced to prioritize the hard cases only, to save what little gas is left in the headcounters, but we have gas only for one more week only, the pressure on us is high since all ambulances cross checkpoints which we call long distance runs.

The Israeli army invaded several areas across the West Bank city of Hebron and arrested five residents, on Thursday.

Troops stormed homes in Al Fowar refugee camp, Yata village, Al Thahria village, and Kharsa village
The prisoners society club in the city issued the following four names of those arrested: Mahmoed Ahieb, 33, Hamed Al Wawi, 17,  Taleb AL Najar, 45 , Bassam Halahla, 48 the fifth name was not published.

This brings the total number of Hebron civilians arrested to 14 in the last 48 hours and 25 form the beginning of May.

The Israeli army arrested four residents from the village of Al Sheyoukh and Halhol near the West Bank city of Hebron, on Thursday morning.

Army invaded both villages conducting wide scale searches of homes, before arresting; Ahmad Al Wawi, from Halhol, Isma'el Al Halaika, 44, who works as a police officer, Mohamed Al Aiada, 38, Iyad Aiada, 33, all three are from Al Sheyoukh village, local sources reported.
The sources also added the soldiers forced the families of the arrestees out of their homes during the searches and arrests.
