The new UK adverts against cannabis

robdur | 24.10.2006 08:07 | Ecology | Health | Social Struggles

It is basically my response to news about some new anti-cannabis adverts I saw on television on the ABC world news on the morning of Oct. 24, 2006. I cannot stand the outright lies they are foisting on the kids and adults who have already had enough yellow journalistic scare tactics already to get us involved in Iraq and don't need any more such from Industrialists and politicians or some Vicars.

Have you seen those new television ads that are anti cannabis in England? They show some kind of gruesome lobotomy shop where you can get your damaged brain removed and a new one put in because cannabis damages your brain. According to the latest research I have read this is just not the case, in fact cannabis has been shown to actually help the brain and nervous system as well as other parts of the bodies systems. These ads, like those that are shown in the United States with their false, pseudo science, witness against cannabis adverts are based on misinformed and political and religious dogmatic ideology, not real science. Even the lowly seed of the plant has benefits for our immune systems and may in fact have been a factor in human beings developing resistance to diseases crossing over from the domesticated animals that otherwise became pandemics for us humans. The seeds contain at least four essential acids needed by our immune systems according to reports and that can only have a beneficial impact on people who might get AIDS, or one of those bird flus or any other crossing over that if they don’t ingest the cannabis seeds en natural, many more will die from the cross over disease than those who do ingest the seeds regularly as a supplement and no you cannot definitely get high on what essentially is bird seed food for pet birds like budgies and other small birds. The seeds can be made into a nutritious nut butter that tastes somewhat like peanut butter you buy in the store, or many other products such as in a granola bar or breakfast cereal. If it helps your immune system at all then it is good, and natural, evolved to be this way because that insures that the seed gets spread as far as possible by any animal that eats it, a genetic strategy evolved into many plants today. This kind of evolved path the plant’s genetics took in the course of the history of the planet is a natural one, even the compounds which get you “high” are a natural thing designed to get the animals to remember which plant gave the “high” to them that made them feel so pleasant so that they would eat more of the plant and with more of the compounds concentrated into the seed pods or flower buds, which not only protects the buds from excessive ultraviolet, which plants like somewhat, it provides a reward to the animal that eats the buds regularly so the seeds will once again be spread further than it normally would if it simply dropped off of the plant and grew where it would compete for the nutritional resources in the dirt with the parent plant. This is nature, this is how things work evolutionarily in nature. The genes of some plant developing attributes in the mature plant to reward or warn those elements in the environment, like the animals that eat the plants, to either eat it or not eat it according the needs of the plant which cannot move itself nor can the seeds move themselves either, they need animals to move about and propagate themselves with further to fresh dirt to take root in and grow and produce a new plant. These television ads are outright lies to the children and I even saw someone rolling a stringy tobacco product in a cigarette paper which was definitely not cannabis buds. And tobacco definitely does have deleterious effects on the human body with no beneficial effects whatsoever, except for the taxes levied on it when it is sold, and those taxes only benefit the government coffers while the same tax money is used to pay for these lying adverts against a truly beneficial plant that is like the proverbial multi-useful hog or porcine domesticated farm animal in that we can utilize every part of the cannabis plant to make cloth for all sorts of uses from fine linen to rough canvas or fine papers or rough papers called rag paper, so called because in colonial times and before, paper was made most often by pieces of cloth made of cannabis fibers from the stalks as well as all the rope of whatever diameter used on all sailing vessels in the British Navy when the UK ruled the ocean waves and most of the world as well as being used to make the clothes and sail cloth for the sailors and the ships and the blankets the sailors slept under. In fact history tells us that Britain used to impress American sailors and ships into service for Britain to go to Russian ports and buy Russian cannabis hemp sail cloth and rope and raw material to get around Napoleon’s embargos against Britain at the time. I know from historical evidence of great rope walks, where rope of many diameters and lengths was manufactured in the United States up until the last century. Even today, ever since WWII, there remains certain farms in the US who are the only one licensed to grow cannabis hemp for the fiber to make rope and cloth as a strategic material in the event of embargo or war and other supplies for these manufacture are cut off. It is due to the self serving yellow journalistic tactics of industrialists like William Randolph Hearst who invented scare stories against the Mexicans and others who worked for him in harvesting in his fruit fields and the cheaper and better prospect of cannabis paper after the invention of a farm device to separate the cannabis stalks fibers from the rest of the stalk that would compete successfully against Hearst’s timber holdings for the newspaper market and be able to supply his own newspaper chains with cheaper paper from cannabis that made him see red and campaign against the plant by stirring up prejudices against Mexicans, Asians, people from India, or other third world countries and of course black people, any one who actually smoked the flower tops or buds of the plant for the “high” that was better than the one given by alcohol, and it left no hangover the next day. Cannabis is better for you than either alcohol or tobacco if you are going to ingest something to get a buzz or high with and in some people with developmental disabilities it possibly even helps a great deal by relieving stress caused by many factors. Stress is deadly to all human beings in the long term as any one who has to take blood pressure control medications and cannabis is the least harmful of all the plants in its natural form than many manufactured products are with the possible exception of aspirin, which comes from tree bark and is made from something called salicylic acid and is used by heart disease patients every day to prevent future strokes and heart attacks or make them less severe and therefore deadly, and that is just one of the benefits of aspirin. Cannabis is probably in the same class as aspirin in being a potential wonder drug and source of raw material for making paper and cloth and even a lightweight structural building material made of petrified stalk material called Isochanvre, first made in France according to historical record. There is even a bridge somewhere made of the stuff that is like concrete and preparations can compete as building insulation, be extruded as boards, and structural beams, much in the same fashion as we extrude plastic, to replace valuable forest products so no trees have to be wasted by cutting down old growth forests and cannabis is an annual plant, meaning you can grow a new crop every three to four months, instead of waiting years to grow a tree to maturity before it is harvestable and makes four times the fiber needed than the same acre planted with trees. So it makes better economic sense to grow cannabis instead of trees, unless you like the cover and shade of the trees, their decorative features, instead of the products you can make from them. Personally, I think I would like to leave the tree where it is and maybe construct a tree house in it to live in, a tree house made from extruded building materials made from cannabis hemp fiber rather than plastic made from crude oil or wood. Incorporate anti-fungal substances and anti-bacterial and anti-insect and pest substances into the extruded material and you have building materials that resist fungus when it is wet and no pest will eat and therefore a house that will last possibly forever barring fire or destruction of the manufactured structure.
