Video Shows Police Killed Ian Tomlinson at G20

A | 07.04.2009 17:32 | Repression

 http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/07/video-g20-police-assault

The video clearly shows the police attacking Ian Tomlinson from behind. Walking away from riot police with his hands in his pockets, he is attacked by a riot cop and falls to the ground. Attended to by a protestor, he gets up only to later collapse and die.

Now what do we do?

Plenty of the Forward intelligence team present.
Will this footage be deemed as inadmissable evidence as it is now illegal to phtograph and video police under section 76?
This just goes to show why they really dont want to be caught on film!

BBC News 24 Coverage

07.04.2009 20:19

BBC are reporting this as follows...

Despite repeated calls by the IPCC who are investigating Ian Thomlinson's death for witness to who may have seen him to come forward this is the first evidence we have other than the photos of the Police treating Mr Thomlinson.

In slow motion the video appears to show that the policeman's truncheon may have touched the back of his leg just before he's apparently pushed from behind.

While the video shows he doesn't appear to be a 100% co-operative with the police he doesn't appear to be uncooperative either and he may have bumped into the police several time before he collapsed.

So there we have the case for the defense, he repeatedly bumped into police, didn't fully co-operate and finally they lost their patience and pushed him out of the way but don't worry he had a weak heart died of natural causes, like Blair Peach in 1979 whose death was the result of an abnormally weak cranium...

BBC News 24 is now describing the incident as a policeman being seen lunging at Ian Tomlinson, who falls to the ground. Why not just say the footage shows a policeman pushing him to the ground? Having said that, the coverage did emphasise that Ian Tomlinson was walking away at the time of the incident.
I agree that it seems very lucky that no one else was fatally injured either that day or on previous recent demonstrations. I was involved in the crush outside the Isreali embassy on 10 January and am still amazed today that no one died in that incident. On 1 April, I saw a young man being led away from the front of the demo outside the Bank of England with blood pouring down his face from a head injury and it occurs to me that the police routinely cause dangerous head injuries with their batons on these demos and it's apparently quite legal and acceptable to anyone other than protestors. Actually, hitting people over the head with batons is ASSAULT. I'm not suggesting Mr Tomlinson died of a head injury but the incident hopefully demonstrates to Mr and Mrs General Public that the police are actually bullying thugs. It is also important to respect the family's insistence that Ian Tomlinson was not a protestor and not to treat him as a martyr to a cause he possibly didn't believe in.

what we do next?

08.04.2009 13:24

well obviously we wait for the riot cop who hit and pushed him to hold his hands up and explain himself. And of course the other cops seen there to come forward and explain why they didn't restrain their colleague or help Mr Tomlinson. Well, why don't they? They have nothing to hide after all? Ah no, it would be 'innapropriate' to offer an explanation and apologise and see to it that this type of behaviour is not acceptable in the police force.

The cop who pushed him to his death has put his superiors in a quandary, as it looks like they were lying when they said in a statement that Mr Tomlinson had had no contact with police officers before his death by 'natural causes'. That makes them out to be liars, which of course the police, our guardians of Law and Order, are not prone to.
Or will there be another white-wash as usually happens when someone dies due to police actions.

You will no doubt see on your tvs and newspapers the cautious, supine, reporting of police malpractice, they do a difficult job, we can't draw conclusions from this video, isolated incident etc instead of decent questioning fourth-estate reporting which we should have from the media. One way to stop police malpractice is for the media to do their job and ask tough questions of authority instead of their usual spineless attitude of helping the cover-up.and blithely reporting police lies.

No free press in the UK. No way of voting the police-state parties out. No way of holding the police to account (and don't bother mentioning the IPCC). Police lie constantly (de Menzies). Police have absolute powers and absolute surveillance.

Oh, and Tony Blair said "The police are actively involved in drafting legislation".

Wake up everyone !!! Its a police state!!! Its HMP England!!!

"the pigs of today are the bacon of tomorrow" They will be made to answer and those whose creatures they are as well. R.I.P Ian Tomlinson and condolences to his people. There will come an answering.
