Perhaps you should have a word with some of the self-proclaimed "anti-fascist" idiots who were wandering around towns like Hastings urging people not to vote or to spoil their ballots. In doing so, they helped get the BNP elected.

Unless a voter is educated as to the reality of their decisions they may well vote in parties like the BNP, this education is sadly lacking in modern Britain. Only free collective decision making under the control of a supervisory body will ensure that extremists like the BNP or UKIP are excluded from power.
We must do everything possible to prevent them from taking their seats and to see a representitive of the people that reflects the needs of the people not their aspirations.

PLEASE -- this is NOT in support of the fascists. It's in support of the concept that "the people" no matter how misguided, foolish, unaware of their own best interests (as you judge those to be) still have the right to cast their ballots unwisely (in your eyes). The concept that it's THEIR decision to make, not yours.
And I do understand the concept of trying to work outside the ballot. But the arguments for that made much more sense when "the people" weren't allowed to vote, when only some of them could. You could then argue that IF the others were allowed, they would support you. Here you have no evidence that you you have the support of the people. Yes fo course you can calim that your own will justifies you -- but then so does the will of the majority that shoots you down in the streets.
The reality here is that IF you ever get the support of enough people to justify your revolution then you wouldn't have to take to the streets -- would have already massacred the opposition at the polls.

Fair point - but more than one in 20 voters in the south east still voted BNP, and they were only a few percentage points away from getting a seat.
The misguided fools urging people not to vote as "Like, all parties are racist, you know?" may not only have been operating in Hastings. You can't urge people to abandon democracy, then moan if the result is not to your linkng.

Offering An Alternative To The BNP

Over the past few months I've offered our local Anarchist group a stall at shows I put on. Not once have they been down despite entrance and stall space being of no charge. Usual excuse 'It's friday night we're off to the pub'.
Nor once did any Anti Fascists, Anarchists or Letfies come out and challenge the BNP leafletting.
When the local Anarchist group found out the BNP had a stall in town one saturday they had a vote and voted to stay away!!
Fascism needs to be challenged but as the same time we also have to offer viable alternatives and of late no one has done that from any Anarchist/Anti Fascist/Socialist organisation.

What specific aspect of, say, the Green party's equality policies strikes you as fascist? (I somehow guess it won't be worth waiting for an intelligent answer...). If you think the Greens are as equally "scum" as the BNP, why aren't you campaigning against them as well?
This "all political activists are scum" stuff is the kind of lazy dogma that has been a huge boost to the BNP because they've presented themselves as being outside of the normal political system. Incidentally, trying to block them from speaking only fuels their sense of persecution and martyrdom.
The "it's not my fault, it's the fault of those who vote BNP" line is pathetic and shows you have no grasp of how democracy works. If you fail to vote - or actively discourage others not to vote - then it is entirely your fault if the system does not represent your views and a far-right party is elected instead. You have become a useful idiot.
I remember when the BNP were voted in in Stratford. The TV news interviewed resident after resident, and they were all outraged, saying they couldn't believe the BNP had been elected and how shocking it was. Then the interviewer asked who they voted for - and they looked embarassed and said they hadn't bothered. That's you, that is.

Thanks to well meaning anarcho hardliners & corporate led campaigns that recetly just focused on corruption by politicians when some corporations & fat cats are getting away with Trillions.
Many Greens I ve met in UK are well into overall direct democracy & consensus more than some harder line anarchos I know. EU is now being split between left & right, the grand coalition though often working on corporate consensus appears to be splitting,
things could only get worser.
Smash Fascism & Vote to get more real democracy, not "representative" shite. Voting pragmatically does not vailidate corporations, it does help improve what little democracy we have.

You are an anti-fascist organization unwilling to promote democratic means of defeating the fascists.
Antifa are either simple minded, or a front for the fascists, because their overwhelming urge for violence is more kin to the anti-immigrant boot boys then a grass-roots, positive antifascist organization, your tactic of non-voting probably didn't effect the result- but it may have done.
Furthermore, if you attack the new BNP politicians physically, their veneer of respectability will not disappear; it will grow.
Re-think these tactics, or you'll further exacerbate a difficult situation for the left and the anti-fascist movement more broadly, besides from polarizing the very class that you should be most appealing to.

After all, the BNP is a relatively minor party, but it polled more than five times more than the most successful left party in the Euro elections (the Socialist Labour Party). Left parties didn't win a single seat.
Shouting and screaming and trying to block candidates is only going to show the far left as shrill but impotent and continue them on their long march to oblivion that they have been on for the past 25 years or so.

Last night there were some good examples of confrontational anti-fascism in Manchester, resulting in Griffin being quite late, and shitting his pants on attendence to the count. We need more of this, and we need to step it up. There is an article by Antifa which sums it up nicely;
However, propaganda is also a major part of any struggle. We need to be out there engaging with communities, opposing the BNP wherever they spring up, and opposing the lies and spin of the fat cat banksters and the politicians.
I urge all anarchists and revolutionary leftists to get involved with serious, organised groups who are countering the BNP. Start a local group and get active. This is the only way we can stop the rise of fascism.

What majority? These two nazis (and that's what Griffin and Brons are, even if the whole fo the BNP isn't) got seats because of a proportional representation system which gives seats to MINORITIES.
They actually got FEWER votes than the BNP did last time (2004). If it had been a first-past-the-post winner takes all system, as in UK general elections, they wouldn't had had an earthly. That's why the BNP targeted the Euro elections.
