No holiday for the animals - Sequani 2009

Gemma | 17.07.2009 12:34 | Stop Sequani Animal Testing | Animal Liberation

All day demo outside Sequani Labs, Ledbury Wednesday 15th July 2009

Together with the Gateway to Hell Campaign a demo was organised outside Sequani Labs in Ledbury, Hereford. Vivisectors are always telling us British Labs are like hotels for animals so we decided to highlight this disgusting lie by having an all day demo outside Sequani (a contract research organisation). We wore summer clothes, took bucket and spades and had a picnic to create a very visual and peaceful demo.

Around 30 activists arrived throughout the day with about 22 police officers, 3 riot vans and 4 police cars joining us. The police gave us their usual warnings about facilitating a peaceful demo. Warnings were given though about protestors chanting the words "puppy killers" even though that is exactly what Sequani do!

The demo was so succesful with such a good atmosphere that passers by started to pap their horns, this was met with blue lights by the police who followed them and issuing £30 fines to the motorists. Even some of the police looked a little bemused by their collegues actions! When I questioned one of the officers about this, his reply was "I am not responsible for other Officers actions just as you are not responsible for other people's actions"

Thank you to everybody that came to the demo and made it a brilliant day.

p.s the food was rather good too!

Local press reporting 1 arrest - I didn't see that happening. What was it for?

Shu

it was I

17.07.2009 18:29

I was arrested for not giving my name and address when I was blocked from leaving a field by police and for verbally objecting to having my arm twisted right back to try and extract that information by causing as much pain as possible using "home office approved" techniques.

Yet another example of West Mercia brown nosing their masters at Sequani. Interestingly a shitty little pro vivisection website has already named me as the arrestee now the main reason for the arrest was because they said that they did not know who I was and that they needed that inormation to ensure that I did not return to a field within 3 months!

Well someone from Sequani must have told SW that I had been arrested because they knew it was me (thus they would have been able to identify me if I went on the land once again within the period of 12 weeks) OR the police told SW after my arrest. Therefore either they were in effect using painful stimuli (I refuse to call it torture out of respect for those who have been tortured using much more heinous methods but it was quite painful) to force me to reveal my identity when they (and indeed Sequani staff who were filming) already knew who I was or a serving police oficer from West Mercia or TVPs operation Rumble (they were having cosy chats about me on the phone apparently) are keeping SW fully briefed which is VERY VERY naughty and can lead to police officers getting into serious trouble. Oh dear!

Needless to say this will be fought hard and I have made complaints about several things such as not being allowed a private phone call with my solicitor which breaches PACE.

The drivers who were fined

18.07.2009 05:18

Every single one of those drivers who were fined were peeping their horn to alert people to their prescence as they were probably concerned by all the hi-viz (could it be an accident etc). They were trying to ensure the safety of all road users. They operated the horn legally and should challenge the fine and make a complaint about West Mercia police fascist behaviour.

Double standards

Would they have fined motorists who showed their support by sounding their horns when the police were on strike and marching through London? I think not!
