I don't know if you have ever been in a situation of near death, but the usual reaction is to freeze up and lose nearly all ability to think properly. Try holding onto the edge of a cliff with two fingers and a foothold that you cant support all your weight on. And then doing a semi-complex task like writing your name backwards. You will find it a lot harder than normal and will probably get it wrong.
