Libya: no signs of 'rebel' successes !

Mario Berger | 04.06.2011 22:01 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Social Struggles | Cambridge

BREAKING NEWS: Western Libya Portrait is not What is being Painted by Mainstream Media ...... Western media reports continue to indicate that Libyan rebels trying to oust Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi from power, backed by daily NATO air strikes, are gaining ground in western Libya. During a six-hour drive from the Tunisian border to Tripoli, the Libyan capital, this reporter saw no signs of Libyan rebel successes in western Libya. In fact, I witnessed a spontaneous pro-Qaddafi demonstration on the main Tunisia-Tripoli highway in a town about one and a half hours west of Tripoli. The green flag of the Libyan Arab Jamahiryah not only adorn flag poles in towns from Tripoli to the Tunisian border, but a number of private residences are flying the green flag from their rooftops, on flag poles, and even from outside of top floor windows in medium size and small towns alike along the main highway. ... Pro-Qaddafi-Demo

There are some telltale signs of previous fighting in the western part of the country -- bullet holes in the walls of some buildings and even some more extensive structural damage -- but there are no signs that the rebels, backed by the United States, NATO, and the European Union, have any substantial support in western Libya.

The one major sign of the Libyan civil war lies not in western Libya but across the Tunisian border where several refugee tent cities have been set up to accommodate thousands of refugees, most of them black African guest workers from sub-Sahara and Sahel nations who were set upon by rebels who said the workers were "mercenaries"brought to Libya by Qaddafi to fight on his behalf. In fact, there is a strong anti-black racialist element within the Libyan rebel movement that used the mercenary meme to justify heinous war crimes by rebel units against blacks from other African nations, as well as native Libyan blacks.

While many of the refugee camps on the Tunisian side of the Libyan frontier are sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross, one is funded by the United Arab Emirates, one of the nations participating in President Obama's "coalition of the willing" that is waging a war on behalf of the Libyan rebels. From our hotel on the Mediterranean coast, we expect to see and hear the attacks conducted against military and some civilian targets a further few miles inland in downtown Tripoli. ........... Why do so-called liberals and Leftists support military action in a formerly colonialised country by the former colonialisers?

Do you not have to be either stupid or a coloniser to believe that the former colonisers are merely seeking to help the people of Libya?

There should be no confusion about colonialism. It is gangsterism.

Err, is it not the truth that the so called 'rebels' are now openly clamouring to 'recognize' the state of israhell?

Err, is it not the truth that the 'rebels' first act was to 'form' a central bank with help from the international[sic] - nee' Rothschild - banking community?

Err, is it not the truth that the Libyan government stated and acted forcefully to keep Libyan oil assets as Libyan and that the 'rebels' are fishing for international 'help' to exploit such?

I know I know

Can't believe how many pro-gaddafi supporters are here

Libya: Gaddafi regime's propaganda attempts over baby exposed

07.06.2011 08:36

By Richard Spencer, Tripoli, Telegraph, 06 Jun 2011

Reporters were taken to see a string of damaged buildings around the Libyan capital Tripoli, in an attempt by officials to show evidence of civilian casualties. After seeing a few broken windows in a church, and some dead chickens and a dead dog at a farm, they were then taken to a hospital to see a girl who officials said had been injured in the air strike. But a member of staff passed a Reuters journalist a note saying, in English: "This is a case of road traffic accident. This is the truth."

Ever since the start of the Nato bombing campaign in March, officials have claimed a high level of casualties but have often been stymied in their attempts to prove it. On one occasion in the early days of the campaign, a large number of graves dug for a funeral were left empty when the bodies failed to arrive. On another occasion, the driver of a bus taking reporters to the site of a residential neighbourhood allegedly hit by a bomb said he was unable to find it and returned to the journalists' hotel.

Sunday's series of trips started with a visit to Saint Mark's Coptic Church, where some windows were broken. But also visible was a neighbouring military compound, devastated by a strike of apparently pinpoint accuracy.

The late afternoon trip to the farm and the hospital featured a man who claimed to be a neighbour confirming the injury, and the baby girl's mother. It was as she arrived that the hospital official surreptitiously dropped the note under the reporters' feet.

Confusingly the same "neighbour" was present when the day ended at 1.30am on Monday morning, in a garden in a different part of the city said to have been hit shortly beforehand. The home-owner said he had been eating in the garden when the "missile" landed, terrifying his children.

On closer inspection, the "missile", sitting next to a small hole in the ground and between palm trees, turned out to be the empty fuel tank of a Russian-made missile, as revealed by its Cyrillic writing. Since Russia is not part of the Nato mission, even accompanying officials said it was unlikely to have come from an overflying jet. The "neighbour", who now said he was also a government official, claimed Nato had hit a weapons storage base, sending parts flying through the air.

The Libyan war sometimes feels as if it is being fought in three parallel dimensions – the actual war on the ground, the fantasies of Libyan government officials, and on the remote hi-tech computer screens of Nato powers' weapons systems. Gaddafi loyalists say the country is under control apart from a handful of criminals and al-Qaeda terrorists. They claim Nato bombing has killed 718 civilians and injured 4,067. They have given no figures for military deaths.

Some of the more grandiose claims by Nato spokesmen have also been challenged, including a statement that watchtowers around the Gaddafi leadership compound had been surgically destroyed when they were clearly still standing.

On the ground the war is being fought on three fronts, near the oil refinery town of Brega in the east, around the city of Misurata in central Libya, and in the Nafusa mountains to Tripoli's south-west. The rebels are generally held to be making slow progress.

Reality Check

Media Disinformation

07.06.2011 10:02

Reality Check likes to quote the telegraph to slander the Libyan people. The western press that is present in Tripoli, are the same fuckers who beat the war drums, who hyped up all the propaganda in the lead up to this war. When they were quoting anonymous twitter feeds and dodgy youtube videos as evidence for Gaddafi's alleged slaughtering of innocent civilians, all you fools fell for it. Human Rights Watch have come out and said that they have found NO evidence of this.
Now NATO *is* bombing Libya. NATO *is* dropping depleted uranium and the world's most advanced weaponry on yet another 3rd world country.

Do you really think that the press in tripoli, who were instrumental in manufacturing the consent for this war are not heavily infiltrated/briefed/under the pay of western intelligence services.

Now this crap about the hospital note is all over the papers. No proof. No evidence, yet people take it for the truth. When will you learn?!!!

There were no WMDs in Iraq. There were no babies ripped from incubators in Iraq. There was no shooting of unarmed demonstrators in Libya. There are no foreign mercenaries in Libya [apart from the NATO scum]
Slowly the truth comes out, but in that time most of the britshit left have been responsible for supporting yet another fascistic war carried out by its murderous government.

fuckNATO

After having read through the article linked to, I have to say that it reads as hearsay, not because I don't believe that soldiers rape civilians in their warped pursuit of dominance over the local population (this seems to happen in most war zones), but because it cannot be substantiated, as there is no other supporting evidence to corroborate what is being said.

It is also biased, as I'm sure the Qadafi supporters are doing their fair share of raping and pillaging too.

Doubtless you will slag me off in return for my saying this, but there is something to be said for balanced reporting, as it is only when facts can be verified that we discover the truth and reality of a given situation, and can then try to do something about it, for example what we know Atos is doing to ill people on benefits.

Verfiable facts and truths are what can also bring down governments - see Watergate for how this can work.

Verifiable facts and truths can also genuinely change the world as we know it, like Copernicus figuring out that the Earth moves around the Sun, as opposed to the superstitious nonsense that preceded this explanation.

Sceptic.
