The NHS has long maintained that a bad diet, low quality housing and poor education are the root causes of ill health and result in a massively overburdened health service. All of these factors come directly out of poverty. It is a terrible hypocrisy and a harsh irony therefore, that the NHS, the East End’s second largest employer, is allowing its workers to be paid slave wages. A health service that creates the ill health it cannot deal with? Only in Hackney.

Governor general of Australia in child abuse scandal cover up.

The Queen's representative in Australia (Dr peter Hollingworth) was called on to resign after he was accused of ignoring a child abuse scandal in his previous job. Several witnesses told the court that Dr Peter Hollingworth, was informed of allegations against a Mr Guy during the time the school was backing Mr Guy's innocence.

Convoy hit in Afghanistan

Conflicting reports of an attack on a convoy of personel destroyed in Afghanisatn near the town of Khost. US says it contained "leadership" whilst not mentioning Al-Qaeda or Taliban. Reprts from civilians in the area appear to suggest that it contained local tribal leaders on their way to the inauguration of the new government in Kabul.
