25 years ago Doncaster’s towns and villages were physically attacked by a Tory government hell-bent on destroying the unions and close-knit communities whose collective strength presented an obstacle to the greed-centred, Thatcherite/Neoliberal economic policy (the economic policy that led directly to today’s global recession). Thanks to the miners strike Doncaster remains one of the poorest regions in the UK.

Zombies take to the streets of Bradford

How much are you willing to pay?
On Saturday last (20th June) the undead rose up and took to the streets of Bradford with their demands for an immediate nuclear apocalypse. Encountering Mickey Mouse, a clutch of Mormons, some people in silver outfits and the usual Saturday shoppers, the ghouls shuffled through the town to a background of zombies tunes from a solar-radiation power sound system.

Over 100,000 people converged on the streets of London on Saturday 20 June 2009 to remember the tens of thousands that perished in the Sri Lankan state’s final onslaught against the Tamil civilians and to call for the release of 300,000 that remain under threat of death, disappearance, rape and torture in government-run internment camps.
