Privacy, Email and Activism - a brief intro
Recently there was a conference for activists interested in security issues - obviously something that any activist should be interested in. Notes from the gathering are being compiled along with previous documents into a printed booklet for activists which is expected to be distributed next year.In the meantime I've been doing a little additional research on solutions specific to securing email communication...

Tony Wright, 52, denied breaching the Hunting Act, when he led the Exmoor Foxhounds on 29 April last year.
But he was fined £500 at Barnstaple Magistrates' Court in a case brought by the League Against Cruel Sports.
He was the first fox huntsman to be summoned to court for defying the law which came into force last year in England and Wales.

An addicted UK Vine and Fig Tree Planter joined up with others international vine and fig tree planters to jolly along spring in Sweden, thus (I like that word) starting to warm the freeze at Gothernburg's Weapons factory (where a harsher shade of winter has laid).

On tuesday 3rd May, a couple of intrepid media activists will start a 110 mile cycle to bring a heavy old tricycle from Dorset to London. On arrival, the rusty old workhorse will be de-rusted, painted and then equipped with laptops, wifi and a hefty 12 volt power system.
It is estimated that the gruelling delivery journey will take four days if all goes well. The two cyclists will take it in turns to pedal while the other rest on the back of the trike. Attempts will be made to hitch a lift back to London with the huge trike but it's considered pretty unlikely to work. During the trip leaflets about Indymedia and the G8 bike carvan will be distributed to curious bystanders.
If you happen to be driving from the South Coast to London with an empty van, trailer or a large roof rack, perhaps you could offer a lift. If you live on route then offers of crash space would be much appreciated.

Video Screening in Southampton
The second video screening run by Indymedia volutneers is being held in Southampton. The video will show some activities of local activists. On Friday morning the following letter was sent by email to IMC UK's contact address, threatening libel action over the suggestion that EDO:
(a) are warmongerers;
(b) are complicit in the deaths of innocent people; and
(c) make things that kill children.
Since their business is the manufacture of weapons (see http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/02/304814.html), these would all seem to be at the very least fair comment, and arguably simple fact.
