Iran: The threat of a nuclear war

09-04-2007 20:51

General Leonid Ivashov (left) at the Axis for Peace Conference 2005 in Brussels
Strongly convinced that a US nuclear strike on Iran is imminent, General Ivashov analysis the probable outcomes of a United-Stator-Irani war. He confirms, for example, that such a conflict will lead to a military one between Tel Aviv and Tehran which will immediately evolve into a religious one, between Islam and Judaism. He raises his doubts about the real reasons behind the US operation, and points out to the reader that Bush administartion and its allies have already started their psychological readying for the likelihood of utilizing tactical nuclear weapons against Iran. Yet, is it possible to avert the bombing ? One of the questions, among others, to which General Ivashov brings an answer in this article.

Announcing: FARE STRIKE! San Francisco 2005: First-Hand Accounts

09-04-2007 07:27

Finally, a collection of first-hand accounts of the Fare Strike, in which thousands of San Franciscans openly and spontaneously united along class lines and rode mass transit for free. Popular anger over service cuts, fare hikes and threatened driver layoffs on Muni (SF Municipal Railway that runs a system of buses, streetcars and cable cars) set this action in motion. The working-class was being saddled with increasing costs for declining service in a system that was already very poor. Anger at this was transformed into the joy of refusal as many people rode mass transit like any other day, yet withheld their money from the fare box. The alienated space of public transportation was briefly transformed into an arena of solidarity and radical possibilities.

Huntingdon Injunction stumbles at the last hurdle

08-04-2007 18:51

Animal testing company Huntingdon Life Sciences were hoping that their Protection from Harassment Act injunction would put an end to protest outside their sites. Last week saw the four year process finally come to a close with a whimper. Normally the mainstream press would be celebrating about the company getting their way, but the victory was hollow and the protestors came out with more than they went in with. Read on for the full account of the abuse of the law and process by Huntingdon and their solicitors, Lawson-Cruttenden.

US Foreign Policy and the Iran-Iraq War: review article

06-04-2007 18:16

This article by Professor Boyle, first published in February 1986 provides an incisive historical review of Washington's foreign policy agenda during the Iran Hostage crisis and the Iran-Iraq war.

It is of particular relevance to an understanding both of the US sponsored Iraq war as well as the foreign policy stance of the Bush adminstration in relation to Tehran.

It is worth noting that the Reagan administration's anti-Iranian policy was conducted by many of the same NeoConservatives who are today working for the Bush Junior Adminstration

Cultural Inversions and Criminal Leadership

06-04-2007 13:20

Imagine coalition leaders recoiling in horror at the prospect of facing the truth that it is they who are the most criminally liable and culpable terrorists in the world today! Former Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, stated that in order to effectively combat terrorism a universal definition of ‘terrorism’ would be imperative. A ratified definition would eliminate politically motivated, arbitrary definitions made by various groups/States for the principal purpose of servng their own interests. In the absence of a universal definition the legal system and International criminal courts are ‘hamstrung’ or worse, subject to manipulation by powerful (criminal) interests.

AUSTRALIA:Our Fascist Welcome Mat John Howard's ABCs

06-04-2007 00:56

American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)?
When someone comes to visit how do you greet him or her? With open arms and a welcome mat or with a list of allegations and a naming and shaming file? True it is Labor this time but not Liberal even though Lab is Lib hence Lib/Lab but what proves the point is that when it's too embarrassing for Lib then it's up to Lab to do the dirty work and attempts to get away with it. But the process is clear it's all about Isamophobia and what mileage John Howard's ABC and their mass media and political allies can make out of it for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)?

Arab Perspective: Playing US Politics with Iraqi Blood for Oil

05-04-2007 08:48

US Democrats in opposition and the ruling Republicans have embroiled the American public in a political crisis over deadlines for combat operations in Iraq that could develop into a constitutional showdown, but for Arabs and Iraqis it is merely playing electoral politics with Iraqi blood for oil because the Democratic Alternative, when scrutinized, promises them no fundamental change.
