<< Page 8 | Page 6>>Calais migrant solidarity _ practical things you can do:::
The 4 activist field kitchens at the No Borders camp in Calais have been taking food to migrants in the city centre and going out to jungles so people don:t have to walk all the way to town: In August; when France pretty much goes on holiday, the voluntary associations here don,t give out food, so if you want to provide practical support to migrants in Calais; August is a key time to get a ferry over with an empty rucksack, bike or car, buy a load of food at the supermarket and take it out to people: Some detail in the main article, but more will follow on Tuesday when we get home cos we,re packing up the kitchens now,,,[Full Story | 2 comments ]
Update And Info From Calais No Border Camp
A farcical curtain of steel has descended on Calais, and the massive campaign of demonisation of our camp by the local authorities continues in the press. The camp is now fully set up with approx 300 people from all over Europe. Many local people are visiting the site and a group of around 40 mostly Kurdish and Afghani migrants. It is nice big site, quite open for people to come walk around and a lot of local kids hanging out. It runs alongside the main motorway from the port out of town and is just a few minutes from the Jungle, the makeshift camps where migrants are living. Many of the migrants seem to be very young, one just 12 year old Afghani visited the camp last night. Migrants report that currently the controls at the border are very tight and that no one has been getting through for few weeks, consequently the number of migrants in Calais are at their highest in several years.[Full Story | 5 comments ]
Rabeh Osman Held Under False Pretences
Rabeh Osman Sayed is an Egyptian national who is currently serving a sentence in Italy’s Guantanamo, Macomer Prison in Sardinia. He was arrested in connection with the Madrid Bombings of 2004, where the Spanish Authorities requested his extradition on the allegation that he was the “mastermind”. A key part of the evidence in connection with the extradition were surveillance transcripts from the Italian intelligence agencies that were provided in translated form to the Spanish Authorities as well as statements that they say were obtained fairly.[Full Story ]

UK Customs & Excise resort to intimidation of and theft from pensioners
An extended community of old aged pensioners are held for an hour and a half by British authorities in Calais. Five are interrogated with malice, and three have £200 each worth of legally exportable tobacco confiscated. This is an eyewitness account which finds that this is not an isolated incident, but a pattern of regular brutality by these officers.[Full Story | 3 comments ]

If the Pope Changes His Mind…
Does that mean he's imperfect? Or that God is imperfect? We've all probably addressed the issue of whether an omnipotent being can change its mind about something, but let's get down to Earth for a moment and address the issue of whether Catholics or anyone should give any respect or deference to a religious idol in the flesh who claims to be the spokesperson for God, but who, from generation to generation, and even within the same tenure, changes his mind on issues due to political and public pressure. In other words, the Pope is and should be treated only as the equivalent of a Prime Minister of a tiny little, but very influential, country tucked away in Rome. So, why do people give him so much credit where it's clearly not due?[Full Story ]
Affectionate racism?
Having flicked on the TV over breakfast this morning, I was subjected to the somewhat absurd spectacle of BBC 1 controller Jay Hunt debating the meaning of the word "golliwog", and whether or not it's racist, with the morning news presenters.T he reason for this, of course, was the row over Carol Thatcher's sacking from The One Show for using the word to describe a black tennis player off-air. Hunt pulled out the dictionary definition, which was similar to this definition I just found online – "A doll fashioned in grotesque caricature of a Black male", so any argument for it not being racist was quickly put to bed (and if you want any further evidence, the fourth Google result for "golliwog" involves the BNP trying to argue that banning golliwog dolls is political correctness gone mad).[Full Story | 7 comments ]
Serge Trifkovic, BNP Councillor, and Scientific Racialists to Discuss Preserving
Among the slew of anti-Muslim screeds published in recenty years, one of the more prominent was The Sword of the Prophet, by Serge Trifkovic. Despite Trifokovic's dubious background as a former spokesman for Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic (although he also spoke against Slobodan Milsoevic), he was embraced by American conservatives - paleo and neo - as yet another expert who dared to tell ``the truth'' about Muslims and Islams.[Full Story | 1 comment ]
