Brighton anti fascist actions prove a valuable lesson

Kettled EDL escorted to station This afternoon's actions by Brightoners against the English Defence League proved a valuable lesson in the value of protest. Without the concerted efforts of the hundreds who turned out, the members of EDL would tonight be downing pints of cheap lager in the city's bars. Instead they have been thrown out of town - hopefully for good.

Zero tolerance on Lewes Road Brighton??

This is weird - just heard today about two mates who both had (separate) overly thorough searches on Lewes Road in Brighton. Thought it's worth posting to see if anyone else had the same experience or has a view on the leaglity of the searches. Seems to go beyond the normal definition of a stop and search.

John Catt’s Judicial Review of ACPO and the Met on 9th February 2012

A diverse range of ‘domestic extremists’, including comedian Mark Thomas, braved the cold on 9th February to greet and support John Catt at the start of his epic legal challenge against ACPO and the Met and their secret domestic extremist database. The Aldermaston Women’s Group brought a large banner bearing the words “Domestic Extremists At Work” which took pride of place over the railings of the Royal Courts of Justice. The air was brimming with excitement and some extremely domesticated “grime-busters”, with cleaning materials to the fore, soon set about giving the fatigued looking Royal Courts of Justice a deep clean and a breath of fresh air!

Emergency Student Union meeting calls for the immediate release of Zenon Mitchell

Students at the university of Sussex gave a strong show of support for fellow student Zenon at an emergency members meeting of the students union last week. The meeting was called in order to pass a motion of solidarity with Zenon Mitchell Kotsakis, a student at Sussex who has been sentenced to 15 months for taking part in the demonstration outside Millbank Tower last year.

Over 200 students attended the meeting and voted through the following motion with only two abstentions and no votes against:

“Thousands have been arrested for taking part in student demonstrations since last year. Our fellow student, Zenon Mitchell Kotsakis was recently sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges of ‘violent disorder’. We demand his immediate release and stand in solidarity with Zenon and all other students facing similar charges and sentences.”
