Eight protestors arrested for superglueing themselves inside shop windows demonstrating against Sir Philip Green's tax evasion. Southampton Protest Round-up 24/11/10 - Student and Council workers' Actions

UNISON's packed meeting, followed by a spontaneous march on the Civic Centre Southampton saw multiple protests against national and local government yesterday, with students from schools and colleges walking out to protest against proposed fee rises and university cutbacks by the coalition government, whilst UNISON members agreed a resolution to oppose the City Council's cutbacks in a packed meeting before spontaneously marching on the Civic Centre.

Student Uprising as University Axe Human Rights

Roehampton University plans to axe its unique Human Rights degree programme which was originally boosted after a 4.5million goverment injection of funding . Students are planning a nationwide campaign to save the Human Rights department which is one of only several in the UK and which was the very first of its kind. Angry students are organising protests to coincide with an International Symposium on Human Rights to be held at the University next week.

A statement from the occupation at Middlesex

In late April 2010, Middlesex University decided to close down Philosophy, its highest research-rated subject; ever since, Middlesex students and staff, and many thousands of their supporters in the UK and around the world, have been battling to save it.

In early May, Middlesex Philosophy students took matters into their own hands. On the morning of Tuesday 4 May; when the management cancelled this meeting at short notice, more than 60 students converged on the Dean’s office in the ‘Mansion’ building at Trent Park to demand an explanation. The Dean refused to meet with them. The students decided to occupy.

Sussex Students- Suspended, Excluded, Injuncted

Following last Wednesday's occupation of Sussex House (Sussex University's senior management HQ) 6 students have been arbitrarily suspended and excluded.

Additionally, the university has been granted a High Court injunction banning people from “entering” or “remaining” on campus without the university’s prior written consent.

Students at University of Sussex occupy conference centre

Over 100 Students occupy the main conference room at the University of Sussex in protest against ill-advised and shortsighted proposed cuts to the university. After a demonstration attended by over 300 staff and students, with speeches from Simon Burgess Labour candidate for Brighton and Kemp Town, Tom Hickey of the UCU National Executive, Paul Cecil President of the UCU Sussex branch, Jon Mason of Unison and Pat Hawkes of Brighton and Hove City Council, students at Sussex University have occupied the main conference centre of Falmer Campus
