Nepal :Police crackdown on the peaceful assembly of Tibetan exiles

Our source who was present in the spot during the attack of police on peaceful Tibetan said Tibetan exiles held a memorial service at Jawalakhel Settlement on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Before that there was a notable presence of intelligence officials on that area. Police surrounded the venue for the religious service and blocked the entrance before the service started.

Housing should be a right not a privilege

The Squatting Network of Brighton respond to the possible criminalisation of squatting, to be discussed in Parliament on the coming Monday. We're angry and obviously concerned that the government have sneaked this clause into an unrelated bill, and hence wish to inform the masses of this potentially enormous miscarriage of justice. Options for Dealing with Squatters

The folks at the Ministry of Justice have today launched their 'consultation' document about new laws how to 'deal with' squatters. It asks for the views of "anyone affected by squatters or [who] has experience of using the current law or procedures to get them evicted." They don't seem too interested in what the squatters have to say.

mobile mound A convoy of shopping trollies planted up with vegetables and flowers salvaged from a demolished community garden back in May took to the streets of Brighton on Saturday (July 9). Shoppers were encouraged to grow their own and support local independent grocers and boycott Tesco and Sainsburies who are taking over the city centre in a supermarket war.
