BP: The unfinished crimes and plunder of Anglo-American imperialism

In the light of British Petroleum’s grotesque crime, as yet unfinished, against humanity in the Gulf of Mexico it is well to recall briefly BP’s no less hideous crime perpetrated in its earlier incarnation as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) and its further name change to the Anglo Iranian Oil Company (AIOC) in 1936. At the century’s turn, William D’Arcy, financial tycoon and politician, pursuing the advice of his financial associate and empire builder Cecil Rhodes frantically began his quest for oil in the Persian Gulf.

Little did the masters of British imperialism realize that one of the most dazzling El Dorado’s in the long and tortured history of British imperialism would soon be born? Geo-politically it would have reverberations well beyond the region of the Persian Gulf. It was one of the most decisive steps in the march of imperial globalization, the speed-up the concentration of capital and the resulting imperialist rivalries.

War on Iraq: 5 US presidents, 5 UK prime ministers, 30 years of duplicity, and c

Iraq's current and planned potential ballistic missiles This August, an estimated three million dead later, in Iraq, as the bell now tolls ever louder for Iran, with the near identical sleights of hand and word being played out, as were against Iraq. Farcical, were it not so sinisterly demented, Iran is (says the US and UK) hell bent on making "weapons of mass destruction", remember them? The one's the crazies are still searching for in Iraq? The ones Iraq accounted for not having in 11,800 pages, delivered to the UN in December 2002 and stolen by the US mission to the UN?

vote fraud . . . . lot of it about

. . . . westminster, cheap housing association flats, all with their own numbers - all guys, but a couple of days ago two postal ballots for a chinese couple ( both sexes ) turn up on the main doormat - without a flat number. Dropped a sheet of paper with the details off at the local police station, to get told that they'd check it off against the local electoral lists. This doesnt seem much of a response . . . .

We need a crusade of popular social democracy

My Lords, I, too, congratulate my dear and noble friend Lord Eatwell on initiating this debate and I also congratulate him on his speech. I start, as he did, with a quote.

"From time to time in human history there occur events of a truly seismic significance, events that mark a turning point between one epoch and the next, when one orthodoxy is overthrown and another takes its place ... There is a sense that we are now living through just such a time: barely a decade into the new millennium, barely 20 years since the end of the Cold War and barely 30 years since the triumph of neo-liberalism-that particular brand of free-market fundamentalism, extreme capitalism and excessive greed which became the economic orthodoxy of our time ... The global crisis ... has called into question the prevailing neo-liberal economic orthodoxy of the past 30 years-the orthodoxy that has underpinned the national and global regulatory frameworks that have so spectacularly failed to prevent the economic mayhem which has now been visited upon us".

Those words, said in the past week, came from a Labour Prime Minister-not ours, I regret, but Kevin Rudd, the Australian Prime Minister.

Police State

So now its official- we are living in a Police State. A Conservative MP has been arrested by 9 "anti-terrorism" officers at his constitutency home in connection with Home Office leaks. This is unprecedented. The AR folks were right all along. Still perhaps MPs can only blame themselves since they´ve voted through the end of official UK democracy

Solidarity with Tara in Ireland.

A group of us from Brighton went over to Ireland recently to support the Irish protesters attempt, to halt the work on the M3 Motorway.
The 50km, four lane stretch includes a huge, 53 acre interchange, with two massive orbits and 10 flyover bridges, the construction has already diverted gabhra rivers historical waterways, and heavy machinery have bulldozed ancient tombs and graves within the sacred valley.

"Britain considered Italian coup"

SERIOUS question marks about the Biritsh state and its commitment to democracy are raised by a fascinating report which appeared in The Guardian on today, Monday January 14.

It stated:

"The British government considered backing a rightwing coup in Italy in 1976 to prevent the rising Italian Communist party from taking power, recently released documents have revealed.

***Urgent Callout to save Trees and 300yr old walled garden in Salisbury!!***

Salisbury District Council's controversial new Council Office extension is about to see the felling of about 15 very large treesany day now, (some of which are actually in a Public Park, which means they're not really allowed to cut them down, but do they listen?!!) and the destruction of a 300+ year old walled garden- a small but precious piece of Salisburys history. The garden has been fondly known to the children of Salisbury as !The Secret Garden" for generations untold.
Things appeared to be on hold but now they are pushing ahead to fell the trees.
Please please help!!
the tree’s JUST IN CASE the development project goes ahead.
