University of Sussex Student Union has backed the five Sussex students that have been denied legal aid by Brighton magistrates court. The five, part of a group of seven on trial, were denied legal aid on the basis that as students they are "intelligent enough to represent themselves".[Full Story ]
Indymedia Birmingham hosts Smash EDO's On the Verge
Indymedia Birmingham yesterday hosted SchMovies' new film, On The Verge, which follows the story of the Smash EDO successful campaign. The screening in the Rainbow Warehouse, Digbeth, was the 43rd in the campaign's national tour, which began last March. Unlike previous screenings [ 1 | 2 ], there was no police harassment this time or attempts to suppress the film. With more than 50 people present, the screening and discussions were followed by DJ's, vegan food and beer until midnight.

On the Verge Censorship:Sussex Police Release Little Bit Of Paper
An FOI request to Sussex Police for all communications with Brighton Council relating to the banning of SchMovies On The Verge premiere screening on 17 March 2008, has produced a redacted photocopy of a tiny entry in a police notebook . The response letter below explains that although their maybe far more interesting documents out there, suusex police are not in a position to confirm or deny their existence and have refused to do either.
The identity of the officer who called the Council to complaint about the film has been concealed.
