BNP London Election Campaign hit by conviction of police infiltrator on weapons

Lancaster Unity | 08.03.2008 23:14 | Anti-racism | Repression | Social Struggles

BNP member covertly poses as policeman

At the turn of the year officers from the Post Office Security Team based at London's main sorting office at Mount Pleasant intercepted a package from the USA which contained a Tazer gun, known as a stun gun, now in widening use by the Metropolitan Police Service. The addressee was a 23 year old man, one Ellis Hammond. The P.O.security team passed on the address and details of the contents of the package to the police in South East London. It took them only minutes to realise that Hammond was a serving officer in the Police Community Safety unit based in their command area.

In no time, they were at his family home detaining him and carrying out what was said to be a very thorough search. They found the following:

1 CS Tear Gas Canister
1 Police style ASP retractable baton
1 pair of Metropolitan Police-issue Handcuffs
I Knuckle-Duster
8 combat knives
DVDs with Hate material on them
Various items of British National Party literature
Some Obscene material
25-30 mainly imported T Shirts from the USA bearing nazi and White Power groups symbols and with hard line racist and nazi slogans on them
4 BB Guns
1 Replica AK 47 Assault Rifle
1 Copy of the Turner Diaries the US publication that has served as a blueprint for nazi terrorism in the USA, written by the late William Pearce, a close friend of the BNP who has played host to them at his National Alliance HQ in the USA and was guest of honour at a BNP annual meeting in East London some years ago.
And finally to top it off, a British National Party membership card...

What crime did he commit?

09.03.2008 02:20

I know the Taser & the CS cannister are probablly illegal, but listing T-shirts, videos and replica weapons among the finds is a bit iffy. It's clearly done to imply that this shows some kind of criminal intent. However, this is dangerously close to accusing him of a thought crime.

There is little difference between this and the Daily Mail reporting "anarchist literature" being found in a raid.

Thought Crime??? I don't think so...

09.03.2008 12:47

"Last week he appeared at Bexley Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to two charges under the Firearms Act for possession and purchase of prohibited weapons relating to the Tazer gun and the CS gas spray, both of which carry prison sentences."

Hope that answers your question, Tom. Plus he lied on his application to join the Met and the Community Police Service by saying that he wasn't a member of the BNP, when he was, and is.

It's called infiltration. It's exactly what the NAZIS did in the 20s and 30s. Ban 'em.

When it comes to BNP...

09.03.2008 14:13

Seriously, when it comes to the BNP you cannot say it's a thought crime, maybe a lack of thought crime, also, hell yeah it should be a crime, a crime that caries a violent sentence, people need to stop using this twisted logic that allows the BNP the claim freedom of speech, and pretend they are victims of discrimination, they are not, every word that comes out of their mouths could be more violent then rape.

How many BNP members have been implicated in terrorism? how many have had obscene materials found on them? how man bribes? how many hate speeches, how many violent assults, how much longer are we going to allow them this, the freedom of speech, expression, and so called thought?

Fear of Mail

09.03.2008 18:25

I don't know about Mr or Mrs Twisted Logic, but it's been a long time since I last tried to import bombs, guns or contraband (or economic migrants for that matter.)

Are you suggesting (Hildy) that the Post Office poses a major threat to our multi cultural and racially diverse society? Should we all go and join the Anti Post Office League?

I've taken it for granted for a long time that if one is to engage in anarchist activism at any level then one should assume that one's mail, email, phone calls, whatever, MIGHT be under surveillance. But where the BNP is concerned, I find it quite reassuring that they ARE under surveillance. Next step is ban 'em.

Replace...

...copper with muslim and BNP with AL Q in this story and you'd be looking at front-page headlines in the tabloids and the best part of a life sentence for conspiracy for the punter. Fuck the media, fuck the fash, fuck the judiciary.

Ask Rupert Murdoch why

10.03.2008 01:05

What you say would be in the Sun only, or mostly I guess.

But only the Times has reported the above AFAIK.

Murdoch owns both if I am not mistaken and has a very strong grip on their editorial contents.

Will pc aparthied nazi bnp party be let off again?nailbombers, largest bomb haul ever in Yorkshire, poisons etc found with another near hull etc. How come they & their poison isnt being shut down now?
Griffin was vfriendly with Abu Hamza, nazi germany encouraged formation of Isreal with Stern gang, farrakhan& klu klu klan. Nazis love murder & apartheid.
Griffin also directly linked politically & best friends with those responsible for terrorist strategy if tension in Italy, where red brigades were blamed for mass bombing train slaughters at Bologna etc.

Decisons, decisions

11.03.2008 00:42

I think this crystallizes the overriding debate very well, whilst taking us exactly 80 years back in history.

Do we support the state, in its imperfect state, i.e., the police, the judiciary, the parliament, the NHS, the education system, the civil service, the army, the DSS, etc, in which case we have the power to lobby for the outlawing of the BNP?

Or do we simply oppose the state and everything it stands for, in which case we have to provide an alternative to the state, in all its manifestations, whilst at the same time opposing BNP and NAZI activity presumably through militant action?

Or is there a way to hybridize the two?

For the time being, I'd just say Ban the BNP.
