Coverage of the G8 has been knocked off the news by multiple explosions in the centre of London - some dead.
Police originally blamed the first two explosions on the Underground (At Aldgate East and Edgware Road) on a “power surge”, but the first bomb, which ripped apart a double- decker bus in Tavistock Square leading to unconfirmed fatalities led to Met admissions that this “may be terrorist related”. A second bomb in Houndsditch has been confirmed.
At 11.18 Police confirmed six explosions and one collision on the Underground, and one hospital reports receiving 90 casualties. Fatalities have occurred but the number is so far unconfirmed by emergency services.
The entire London Transport system - underground and buses - has now been closed down. Trains are being stopped as far outside London as Chelmsford. Londoners are being asked to stay in their homes and off the streets, and to avoid calling the emergency services unless their lives are threatened.
