Now more than ever we need to put an end to the Bush Administration's illegal practices torture and detention. Here's how you can join the fight:

Bush Administration's illegal practices torture and detention
Bush Administration's illegal practices torture and detention

As the nation's anger rises over the Bush administration's mishandling of the Katrina catastrophe, men at the Guantanamo Bay Prison camp are starving to death.

See below for what you can do.

Currently, more than 200 detainees in Guantanamo Bay are in their fifth week of a hunger strike.

Their demands are simple: give us a trial or release us. The hungers strike resulted from the U.S. Department of Defense reneging on promises to bring the detention camp into compliance with Geneva Conventions.

Now more than ever we need to put an end to the Bush Administration's illegal practices torture and detention. Here's how you can join the fight:

TAKE PART IN DISTRICT OFFICE LOBBY WEEK: From September 26 - 30, CCR will join forces with Amnesty International USA and others to sponsor a special week of lobbying Congressional district offices.

We aim to have Congressional district office delegations in every state across the country.

Our message will be simple and clear: Congress should immediately establish a fully independent commission to publicly investigate all allegations of torture and ill-treatment in U.S. detention centers around the world.

Visit today to find out how you can get involved.

CO-HOST A TEACH-IN OR READING:

The Guantanamo Action Center at CCR is organizing teach-ins and readings of the award-winning play GUANTANAMO: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom.

The play tells the true story of four people detained by the Bush Administration at the Guantanamo prison camp through testimony and interviews. The moving first-hand accounts in the play put a human face on the legal struggle that CCR has been fighting to get the detainees their day in court.

Further information about the issue and the play can be found at the Guantanamo Action Center,  http://www.ccr-ny.org/gac

Guantanamo detainees in protest fast

Dozens of Guantanamo Bay detainees have started a new hunger strike at the US detention centre and at least one has written a will in anticipation of starving to death, human rights lawyers say.

The New York-based Centre for Constitutional Rights said the hunger strike began because the US Department of Defence reneged on promises to negotiate with prisoners after a June-July hunger strike that involved up to 200 of the 500-plus men detained at the remote base.

justice betrayed ......

AUSTRALIA/CUBA/USA: A stated belief of the Liberal Party is: "We believe in a just & humane society in which the importance of the family and the rule of law & justice is maintained."

The Prime Minister & a number of his senior Minister's, demonstrated how this Liberal Party belief, also a 'core' value of our democracy, has been betrayed: to the detriment of us all.

For David

We could leave Muslims including Hicks alone to sort out their own problems while we deal with being led by the nose. Or we could review the known facts regarding our nation's involvement and decide if current directions appear to be crusades, face facts. Hicks and Ned Kelly are just a product of our nations hypocrisy, both of whom woke up to it, long before I did.
