Bryan Griffiths is in prison charged with murder, he was piloting the gyrocopter in the recent incident where a hunt supporter died.

We have heard from his solicitors that Bryan Griffiths would like to receive letters. For the time being please don't add Brian to any prisoner lists, but do forward his details to people who want to support him.

Also please be sensitive, however you feel personally about the incident, do not write letters implying the hunter deserved it or similar sentiments.

Bryan is a vegetarian and member of a local group which monitors several hunts around the Midlands, collecting evidence of hunts when they breach the ban on hunting with hounds.

I suspect that..

26.03.2009 08:06

as this is a very sensitive case that Indymedia are being very careful about any information about it. Horse and Hound are at present calling for all monitors (let alone sabs) to be apphrehended and are really trying to get milage out of this tragic incident.
Suffice to say that Bryan is facing life in prison for something he did not do and needs support especially as he is not on any prisoner lists. A trial for murder is on the cards speculation about the case will not help, this has after all been on national TV and in the mainstream press.
I am sure that cards, letters and money would be gratefully recieved although commenting on his case would be unwise.

More information?

25.03.2009 21:46

It would be nice to get more information on the incident, before writing to him. Just to have more of an understanding about his case. Thanks.

Why is this an identical repost without the info?

25.03.2009 21:59

This article was promoted a few days ago with EXACTLY the same title, but actually had information to support Bryan -  https://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/03/424437.html

A bit suspicious that it doesn't mention that the death was an accident, only that an accident happened and therefore he was charged with murder (kind of implies it was on purpose...?)

I think the fact the post was just two lines spells it out...? If somebody did this unintentionally (which I don't rule out for a moment) then please remember to include more info next time (like a sab has done) when regarding sensitive issues (which basically includes most/all)....

It's just general practice to actually have an article, instead of a summary of one. Cheers. x

something very funny going on with animal rights posts

25.03.2009 22:48

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but there seems to be a lot of animal rights stories posted here with virtually no content. I wonder if they aren't posted as deliberate bait to get people to open up and post information here that they maybe shouldn't.

Or maybe they are posted by someone monitoring Indymedia traffic to see which IP addresses read it or respond to it.

They are often ones about prisoners or describing arrested people as "ALF activists".

Very suspicious.

nothing very funny going on with animal rights posts

25.03.2009 23:43

It's just that so many animal righters are completely wrapped up in their own narrow issue that they only rarely think to include details such as who, why, where when, what, how. Sorry but consistently, animal rights stuff is the worst quality of all the posts made to imc.

AR Protesters have more laws against them

26.03.2009 12:33

In reply to the above post,
I think the reason why there is less information about animal rights arrests/imprisonments is purely because there are more official laws against animal rights protesters and they seem to be top of the list for who the government want to finish off.
There are over a dozen animal rights campaigners in prison at the moment, serving ridiculously long sentences.
So a lot of the time it's safer not to write too much information about who has been arrested or raided, but it is worth posting that someone has been, so others can be aware and perhaps prepared for a potential raid etc.
Also, it is not always wise or important to post names, before long, those who 'need' to know who the arrestee was, will know all the information they need, without having to explain the personal details to strangers on the internet.
It's not that animal rights activists are 'too wrapped up in themselves'.

animal rights are single issue?

27.03.2009 14:23

Reply to a previous post about animal rights posts being single issue and not including who/where/what/when/how:

That may be true in a small number of cases, but it happens with posts on other issues too.

Most of the animal rights posts I see are very well written and informative, and most animal rights activists I know are far from single issue. Animal rights posts also seem to attract the most comments by far; they are a very active community here on Indymedia.

I did hear somewhere that a post (maybe this one?) originally contained a lot of extra information that had to be removed by the Indymedia admins because it contained highly inappropriate information that wasn't for public dissemination. This fits in with my original hypothesis about posts being made by people like cops, with inside knowledge, for nefarious purposes.
