UK government condemns British mining company Vedanta
In an unprecedented attack on a major British company, the government ruled that Vedanta, ‘did not respect the rights of the Dongria Kondh’; ‘did not consider the impact of the construction of the mine on the [tribe’s] rights’; and ‘failed to put in place an adequate and timely consultation mechanism’. Devastatingly, it concluded, ‘A change in the company’s behaviour’ is ‘essential’.[Full Story ]

Surpise announcement - EON fucked off!
Tonight the German energy giant Eon issued a statement which effectively takes them out of the picture for the governments gift of one billion pounds of public money to build a new coal-fired power station with the controversial carbon capture and storage technology, and means that (for now at least) the aging Kingsnorth power station will not be replaced.[Full Story | 1 comment ]

Vestas Camp update: Green Leader to take Vestas Fight to Europe
Green Party Leader, the Isle of Wight’s Green MEP, and prospective parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion, Dr. Caroline Lucas MEP is to visit the Vestas Wind Turbine Blade factory on the IOW on Friday (9TH October). From 11.30 am – 1.30 pm she will be present at the ‘Magic Roundabout’ Solidarity/Protest Camp, St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, IOW. 'Failure is not an option' for Vestas. It ain't for us either.
'Failure is not an option' for Vestas, according to their Business Strategy. It's not an option for the campaign to save the Newport, Isle of Wight factory either. We have the 'Will to win' that Vestas' CEO claims Vestas' have. The factory will reopen. Wind Turbine Blades will be produced in the UK, for the UK. Workers will be unionised. You never know, the factory might even be a workers' coop.[Full Story ]

Investors in Vestas? Sell your shares...
Vestas claim they are 'Number 1. in Modern Energy', and indeed are responsible for developing and installing much of the world's wind/renewable energy. However, they've shown their true colours (not so 'green' after all) this summer - through closing their St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight factory, leading to the loss of 600 jobs. Unions were banned & working conditions deteriorating prior to closure, & 11 workers who occupied the factory to save it have been paid no redundancy. There will be a long-term campaign as a result. Climate Swoop at South Wheeler - urgent
There is an urgent request for Climate Swoopers. We have found a toxic dump in the town of South Wheeler who have described their town as an "arsehole" full of toxins, waste materials and methane leaks. They have requested that Climate Swoopers take immediate action against the dumping and subsequent gasses, pollution etc. They have said "the dumping really, really stinks, it's SO TOXIC!"[Full Story | 3 comments ]

Since the removal of the 'Marine Gate' 'Blade Blockade', and the Turbine Blades that remained in the Vestas Blades UK factory on St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight, campaigners have been sorting out the original 'Magic Roundabout' Camp, and considering strategy. A Marquee has been erected and a fair amount of furniture skipped / built to make the area comfortable and well-resourced in terms of power (80-odd watts of solar power for phone and laptop charging), a solar shower, and spare tents for visitors.

Lambeth UNISON Gives Green Light To Environment Reps
The Lambeth Branch of UNISON - the second largest trade union in the UK - has voted to establish environmental reps in workplaces across the Borough. At a meeting of the Lambeth Branch Committee on 15th September, Branch activists agreed to encourage Lambeth UNISON members to elect environmental representatives within their places of work.[Full Story ]

The camp has a well established kitchen run by volunteers who serve quality vegan evening meals 'Roundabout 8', with lunch and breakfast also provided and sometimes cooked too. Those who occupied the factory are often present, together with climate campers and those from assorted lefty groups and unions. Get down there and join 'em! ...and take some cake with ya!

How to Get to Vestas - go there now!
It's really important that people get down to Vestas ASAP to prevent the last few Wind Turbine Blades remaining in the St Cross Business Park, Newport, IOW factory, and in Southampton Docks, from leaving to America. This is a really good piece of leverage to argue for reinstatement of sacked workers, better redundancy packages, installation of the blades on turbines in the UK, a buyout of the factory and worker control of it, and better Energy and Climate Change policies from govt, businesses, trade unions, individuals etc. Get on it![Full Story | 3 comments ]

Activists outside the Vestas factory on the St Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight have been tipped off that Tuesday at 12 noon a 'Blade Runner' barge is coming down the river Medina to the Vestas factory from Southampton to pick up some of the remaining blades still inside the factory. Those present expect a big police presence along with big support from other supporters and activists. They claim they are prepared to do anything and everything to stop Vestas from shipping these blades or from getting anything into the factory if that’s their plan.

We took some nice photos of the dawn the day after to encourage people to visit (on yer way to Calais, natch). Climbers, cooks and nocturnal creatures particularly warmly welcomed. The fires are still burning!

Vestas crane Occupiers are released from custody
Vestas supporters climbed cranes in southamptoin docks two daysw ago in order to put pressure on the company to reinstate sacked workers with full reduyndancy pay. They stopped work on the site for seven hours and were threatened with arrest under the terrorism act.
