Updated action ideas to support Calais migrants
Information from activists on the ground in Calais points to the police preparing to destroy some or many of the ‘jungles’ housing around 1,800 migrants in Calais, this Monday 20th July or Tuesday 21st July. These ‘jungles’ are where people who have travelled across Europe wait in makeshift shelters, with little food or medical assistance, for their nightly attempts to get onto lorries making the crossing to the UK. Protest Against Destruction of Calais Jungles
France's Interior Minister Eric Besson made it clear in January that he wanted to see all migrants removed from Calais and the surrounding area by the end of this summer. And the project has already started with the bulldozing of camps at Loon-Plage and Teteghem and the destruction of squats in Calais. We are calling for these targets as the UK Border starts in Calais – both the French and British states are implicitly involved in any attacks (legal or otherwise) that are launched against migrants in Calais. As the burning and destruction of the migrant camp at Patras in Greece shows, EU states now have little to fear in their attacks against migrants, as popular support for the far-right in the European elections shows. We need to show them otherwise. Of course, any other direct action is welcomed.

Thousands of people from the No Border camp descended on Calais town, France, to get their point across about the situation facing increasing numbers of desperate asylum seekers stuck in the Calais area. Many asylum seekers face destitution in Calais as they struggle to complete their journey- for the most part away from war torn countries such as Afghanistan.

Calais migrant solidarity _ practical things you can do:::
The 4 activist field kitchens at the No Borders camp in Calais have been taking food to migrants in the city centre and going out to jungles so people don:t have to walk all the way to town: In August; when France pretty much goes on holiday, the voluntary associations here don,t give out food, so if you want to provide practical support to migrants in Calais; August is a key time to get a ferry over with an empty rucksack, bike or car, buy a load of food at the supermarket and take it out to people: Some detail in the main article, but more will follow on Tuesday when we get home cos we,re packing up the kitchens now,,,[Full Story | 2 comments ]

Update And Info From Calais No Border Camp
A farcical curtain of steel has descended on Calais, and the massive campaign of demonisation of our camp by the local authorities continues in the press. The camp is now fully set up with approx 300 people from all over Europe. Many local people are visiting the site and a group of around 40 mostly Kurdish and Afghani migrants. It is nice big site, quite open for people to come walk around and a lot of local kids hanging out. It runs alongside the main motorway from the port out of town and is just a few minutes from the Jungle, the makeshift camps where migrants are living. Many of the migrants seem to be very young, one just 12 year old Afghani visited the camp last night. Migrants report that currently the controls at the border are very tight and that no one has been getting through for few weeks, consequently the number of migrants in Calais are at their highest in several years.[Full Story | 5 comments ]
