ethnic press deined access

Dear friends,

Congratulations on the success of your May Day event. Although I am a journalist working for the ethnic press, I was not allowed access to cover the event for my newsagency - I take it they only allowed in the media organisations backed by big money.

From where I was standing (outside Westminster Abbey), I could see there were actually more police on the road, the square, in riot gear, cars, vans and coaches than spectators. It also appeared to me that the police were actually spoiling for a fight. In fact, I witnessed the harassment and subsequent arrest of three young men who were standing peacefully next to me.

I was also sorry to see today that the British media (incl the BBC) failed to cover the actual event itself and instead chose to focus only on the opinion of politicians and of course their paymasters in big business. Still, its good to know that there are some people out there doing the kind of things I believe in.

Well done and keep up the good work.

Regards, Deepa Pathi
