What's on - events in London, the UK and beyond

LONDON

There are many events planned in London for the Mayday weekend, below are the events IndyMedia UK will be reporting from directly.

Friday 28th April

Critical Mass
6pm - South side of Waterloo Bridge, SE1
A 'special Mayday edition' of the regular central London mass bike ride, where hundreds of cyclists 'rescue parts of the city from the tyranny of the motor car'.
IndyMedia UK will launch the reporting site with coverage of this event, the first of the weekend.

Saturday 29th April

Mayday 2000 Conference
From 10am until 6pm, the conference includes films, workshops and a bookfair. The workshops cover a huge range of issues from GM crops to sanctions against Iraq and includes sessions on non-violence and passive resistance, while speakers include Rob Newman, the McLibel Two, Chumbawumba and former black panther Lorenzo Kom'boa. IndyMedia UK will be bringing a flavour of the conference direct to your screens.

Sunday 30th April

IndyMedia UK will continue reports from the conference which runs from 10am until 6pm.

A30 Protest against the new Prevention of Terrorism Act
Meeting at Highbury Fields, Highbury, N5 at 2pm (for 1 hr)
A major stunt to draw attention to the new legislation, taking the form of a giant photo call for the 'class of 2000' - 'this could be your last chance to protest' say some of the leaflets.

Monday 1st May - MAYDAY!!

10am - Mayday Critical Mass
The sister event of Friday's Critical Mass starts at Hyde Park Corner for what should prove to be a colourful and eco-friendly start to Mayday. IndyMedia UK will bring you the news and views as they happen.

11am - Guerrilla Gardening
Meeting at Parliament Square for the Reclaim The Streets event, the leaflets say 'This is not a Protest!'
'Guerrilla Gardening is NOT a street party. It is an action demanding participation and preparation. An adventure beyond spectating!'.

IndyMedia UK will be reporting live and direct from the event. From the starting point, throughout the day, to where ever the action ends up. The 'public access terminals' will also be up and running allowing the participants to contribute directly to this site - reporting by the people, for the people.
