Students Against Trident blockade North and South gates at Faslane nuclear base

Penny | 29.06.2007 14:19 | Faslane | Anti-militarism | Leeds Bradford | Nottinghamshire

9 students were arrested this morning at Faslane nuclear base after blockading the road for 40 minutes.

At 6.30 am, 6 students from Nottingham and Bradford Universities arrived at the North entrance, superglue-ing their hands together to blockade the main entrance at shift change. A large tail-back was caused, distrupting workers from entering the base. After much scrubbing with soap and water, they were all removed after around 40 minutes and arrested for Beach of the Peace.

At the same time, 3 more students from Nottingham were arretsed after blocking the South entrance using a concrete blockade.

Wonder if we could estimate lives saved in that 40 minutes?

Nice work students!

yay for superglue

Ah, formulated by the military for quick wound-repairs in the field, and subverted for use against the war machine. I love superglue. 'Mon the students!

South Gate

04.07.2007 12:04

Just to clarify. There were actually only two people blockading the South Gate (using a concrete barrel lock-on). There were, however, three arrests as the police decided to pick up the legal observer as well (we're not 100% sure why, but we have our suspicions).

The road to the South Gate for about 15 minutes as the police discovered a major design flaw in the lock-on quicker than had been anticipated. Simultaneous blockades did mean that the base was essentially inaccessible for a short while (there are two other gates, but these are rarely used).

All 3 South Gate arrestees were held at Dunbarton Police Office and released on Saturday evening after the events at Glasgow Airport. Those from the North Gate were held at Clydebank and released at much the same time.

a good time was had by all at the camp. Dont quite understand 'lives saved' though. Some kind of heckle or are you confused about the nature of the work at faslane? Doubtless that it is murderous in intent but in nature is debatable.

unfortunatelyone cannot be arrested for 'beach of the peace' otherwise a worryingly large amount of whales would be receiving letters from the procurator fiscal right now.
