mh, 12-04-2005 11:24

Barbar Luck, ex-King Prawn, gives the G8 the finger at evening benefit
This is a very brief report on the above event, and I write as someone who was heavily in favour of the event happening. Given the extensive publicity it received on this newswire, visitors to it deserve a brief report! Read more >>

Ring around the clock - Making Poverty History

Simon, 10-04-2005 17:58

Make poverty history / Drop the debt
As the millenium clock in the centre of Swindon struck noon on Saturday, people dressed in white surrounded it to form a white ring, like one of those wristbands in aid of the Make Poverty History campaign. They were silent for a minute, with the exception of some percussion instrument which marked an avoidable death due to poverty every three seconds. At the end of the minute, a whistle blew and they all shouted "Make Poverty History". A long banner was unrolled around the outside of the group, reading "Poverty kills 30,000 people every day. 'Click' there's another one. 1.3 billion people live on less than 53p a day. MAKE POVERTY HISTORY". Read more | 2 comments >>

How much will you stand for? - Bristol G8 Dissent! news

Dee Senta, 11-03-2005 20:35

As the city council slashes services for the elderly & vulnerable, and prepares to increase the council tax; as more land gets flogged off to private developers; as water and other utility bills increase by many times the rate of inflation; and as the Government attempts to rush through Parliament, with some Bristol MP’s support, yet more draconian attacks on our civil liberties; it just so happens that a series of G7/8 ministerial meetings are taking place around the UK, involving Employment, Environment & Development ministers (for info see  http://indymedia.org.uk/en/actions/2005/g8/). And of course we have Blair’s conscience-saving Commission on Africa reporting today. Read more >>

Bristol G8 Dissent news

Dee Senta, 11-01-2005 23:09

Britain’s year as ‘host’ to the G8 has got off to a fairly high profile start as a result of the disastrous consequences of the earthquake & tsunami in the Indian ocean on 26 December. The subsequent outpouring of support & donations by people around the world (around 2$billion) has forced the G8 to play catch-up with the publics’ sense of solidarity. Read more | 1 comment >>

Bristol G8 Dissent! update

Dee Senta, 22-10-2004 22:32

From 1 January 2005 for one year, Britain will be the 'host' nation of the G8 (group of eight major industrial democracies - not necessarily the 8 richest, nor most democratic). 'Dissent! a network of resistance against the G8' held a stall at last weekends ESF conference, as well as a day long series of packed out workshops on Friday 15 October at the Beyond ESF event. At the Bristol Dissent meeting on 26 October, Bristolians who attended the workshops will report back on the discussions and progress of the campaign. Read more | 1 comment >>

Invitation to the Dissent! Network Gathering in Edinburgh 17th - 19th September

fgsdf, 05-08-2004 14:08

The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005. In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements. Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.

The next Dissent! Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on 17th-19th September 2004.

Come along and get involved!
