Minutes from West Midlands Anarchists most recent meeting 27/01/06

WEST MIDLANDS ANARCHISTS

Minutes 27-01-06

-Brum-Brum articles-DCH article, write up on FNB, talk of doing an article on the Incapacity Benefit reforms and sending it to claimants unions or distributing to Benefits resource centres. A ‘Blag the Reforms’ guide? Suggestion to do a series of ‘Blag the…..’ pamphlets, with useful info on bailiffs, employment rights, squatters rights etc. Reproduce some ‘introduction to anarchism’ and other basic introduction guides.
-Posters/stickers-To be printed off once the contact details have been confirmed.
-Leafleting of army recruitment offices in Brum-Suggestion to don army fatigues and hand out anti-recruitment pamphlets at events/areas where the army are recruiting.

-Defend Council Housing-Demo 8th Feb-Call out to be sent out again. Call for everyone interested to get together before the demo to sort transport etc.

-Fundraising-Donations, Socials, t-shirt sales? The idea of voluntary donations preferred to set subsidies.

Incapacity Benefit reforms-Demo, Sheffield, 4th Feb. Sheffield Welfare Action Group (SWAG) are calling for nationwide protests on the same day. New reforms to make claiming incapacity benefits a harder and more drawn out process, seen as an attempt to cut benefit costs and provide more cheap labour-Going to see how this unfolds as its set to come up against considerable resistance, put together a guide to blagging the reforms leaflet.

With regard the student who wants to do a few interviews for an assignment, people would be interested but would want to know more about the nature of the assignment first.

Next meeting-Friday 10th February, 7pm, same venue. Can we have Brum-Brum (and a new title), posters and stickers sorted for then.

All future agendas to have regular updates on prisoner support, Food not bombs and other activities as standard.

Midland Anarchists must travel ?

30.01.2006 09:32

he Midlands Anarchists look exclusive and secret "Next meeting-Friday 10th February, 7pm, same venue." with no mention of where.

Perhaps they are telepthic? Isolated Midland Anarchists could travel -

"Northern Anarchists will meet at Bolton Socialist Club. Wood Street,Off Bradshawgate, Bolton, on 4th feb, 10am."

Gwent Anarchists: "Right after all that festive/new years/overly long hangover period we're gonna go back to having regular fortnightly meetings as of Monday 6th February at The Murenger at half 8." but you can find out more from gwentanarchists at yahoo.co.uk if you correct the @. they sometimes have film shows at other venues. and have an emailed "Gagged" newsletter that has escaped its gag.

WMA is doing well

01.02.2006 12:49

Five people coming to a meeting would be better than nothing but considering our meetings consist of three times that number from time to time then it really doesnt matter. All anarchists in the west mids are always welcome to come along, we have be saying that for ages.

FNB not WMA

01.02.2006 16:11

I'd just like to clarify that the founders of Food Not Bombs -to my knowledge- actually had no affiliation with West Midlands Anarchists, so you can't really take credit for that. Sorry.

hasta la victoria siempre

FNB and WMA

02.02.2006 13:55

Yes Food Not Bombs was not set up by WMA, sorry to imply that they did. There are a lot of people who are involved in WMA and FNB and try to help each other out in various actions, plus to my knowledge FNB is run alond Anarchist lines. I just wanted to point out that as some of the other comments seemed impy that, WMA actually are involved in possitive actions and not redundant to the point that attending one of there meeting would be useless and better to stay at home.

WMA never set FNB up, but i am pretty sure that WMA members help with FNB and FNB help WMA out, its what anarchists do, help each other out. Its always funny when a person gets there knickers in a twist because WMA is mentioned next to IMO a brilliant initiative.

What I really dislike

02.02.2006 22:35

..is that you have rules! you won't "tell" us how to do a revolution, oh no, because you're "anarchists". but you've already told us that there has to be one. So much for autonomy. I might have joined in otherwise, because in my shitty job it would have been nice to meet with other non-hierarchical thinkers, but obviously I'd be written off as a "reformist". Thanks a lot.

Dear c

03.02.2006 01:47

Feel free to join in the revolutionary discussions about how we can overthrow the system and don't have to do shitty jobs anymore!
