NO MEDIA

Graham Woods | 27.05.2006 15:59 | Culture | Education | Globalisation | Birmingham | World

Between the 21st June 2006 and 4th July 2006 a brave few will eschew all media consumption in an effort to give their eyes and ears a break from the relentless jabbering of the mass media.

After reading a book called The Televisionary Oracle by American writer Rob Brezsny I was inspired to take up one of the suggestions made.

No internet for two weeks.
No television for two weeks.
No newspapers for two weeks.
No radio for two weeks.
NOMEDIA for two weeks.

If you think you're up to it then sign up and give yourself a well-deserved holiday.

I have asked the participants to keep diaries/logs of their two weeks and I hope to pull them into an article/page etc. Not sure of the final plan yet. Any other pledgees are welcome!

BECOME The Media

27.05.2006 19:15

Why not, while giving your mind a rest during these two weeks, take some time to BECOME your own media, and write articles that you will then distribute throughout the media at the end of your hiatus?

You could document the process, and examine your reasons for taking such action.

You could also address the many failings of the mass media, especially from the past five years, when we could have used them the most, and their corrupted allegiances were glaring.

You could also cover the subjects they would not, and the many facts behind the LIES they disseminate on behalf of their partners.

I'd love to see what you come up with.

Perhaps a site devoted to this action ... ?

No TV No war

"The media at the end of your hiatus"? To me that means the BBC. In particular the BBC Radio news programmes. Always some arse talking out the end of their hiatus.

Tina has thrown away TV and has learned to play guitar - twice!! (Great).

I threw away/recycled my tiny black/white portable TV in 1997..........and have learned that I do not need to have television.
I have also become increasingly psychotic since.......as a result of too much BBC Radio(news).
Oh,why do I torture myself like this?
Answer. By needing to hear the tripe and lies spouted by Lustig, Naughtie, et al..........in order to challenge and correct it.
But Hey. No media.
Good IDEA.
Suits me(sir).

Eric Blair.

I feel like George Orwell
