Round up of Darfurians in progress?

NCADC | 23.03.2007 13:06 | Migration | Repression | Birmingham

At least 8 Sudanese Darfurians were detained yesterday, 22 March, when they went to report at Loughborough Reporting Centre in the East Midlands. All were served notice that their fresh claims were denied.

Information NCADC received was that there was a representative of the Embassy of the republic of the Sudan at the Reporting Centre to affirm that they are Sudanese to speed the process of issuing travel documents.

There does seem to be a national 'round up' happening

24.03.2007 13:21

We are hearing that this 'round up' is happening around the country and there are several detention locations. Will try to find out more.

There is a case in the High Court against the removal of asylum seekers to the Sudan and so the Home Office is doing its utmost to remove as many as possible before this judgment is made!! It is particularly dangerous for asylum seekers from Darfur to be returned to Khartoum.

A protest this morning (Sat 24 March) in Nottingham outside the Bridewell police station and then the Market Square was noisy and well attended.

There are enough groups around the country active on this issue to have a co-ordinated demonstratioin in support of Darfurians facing deportation.
