Brummies rise up against their shity council

IMCista | 06.02.2008 03:02 | Workers' Movements | Birmingham

Over 3,000 people gathered yesterday in Victoria Square, Birmingham, in solidarity with thousands of Council workers who were on strike to protest against planned wage cuts. Like many other councils, in their implementation of the national 'single status' agreement, Birmingham City Council is waging a vicious attack on low-paid workers in the name of 'equal pay'.

Up to 20,000 workers joined the biggest industrial action in the city in 30 years. Pickets were mounted across the city and even some Councillors vowed to not cross the picket line. Over 120 schools, 24 libraries, 11 leisure centres and 22 neighbourhood offices were all shut.
