Brum Gaza Demo: The Lightning Conductors

IMCista | 21.01.2009 15:43 | Palestine | Birmingham

Last Saturday around 5,000 people marched in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza in Birmingham City centre. After hours of boring speeches by opportunist politicians, demonstrator's freedom of movement and right to protest was restricted by police and stewards to just Victoria Square. Stewards colluded with police to ensure demonstrators could only leave the demonstration in ones or twos even though a Section 60 hadn't been enforced on the protest. Some people did manage to continue protesting outside the pen on New Street and Starbucks was redecorated with some eggs.
