Promises and Bullets (UK/ Colombia, 2007, 62mins)

In this accessible introduction to Colombia deep-rooted social conflict, Promises and Bullets charts the history of Colombia's war, exposing the roles of the guerrilla, paramilitary groups, the army and the Colombian government. The film looks in depth at the role of the Colombian government, questioning its ability and readiness to broker a real and lasting peace. Finally Bullets and Promises presents a space for ordinary citizens of Colombia to speak out about the conflict and how it affects them, a rare opportunity in a place where being critical of the status quo results in being labelled a guerrilla/terrorist.
The film also contains extensive and exclusive interviews with the FARC's key negotiator, Raúl Reyes, assassinated by the Colombian government in a bombing raid in Ecuadorian territory last year.
Movimientos have revitalised the London Latin scene, they host regular jam-packed nights at Notting Hill Arts Club & The Salmon and Compass in London and have made their mark at several UK festivals. Movimientos recently hosted a Manu Chao & Radio Bemba show for a secret benefit gig in Brixton that turned into one of the most talked about underground shows of 2008.
Movimientos DJs Cal Jader & Clem George represent with the sounds of the global Latin alternative. From folkloric to electronic they mix up Revolutionary Salsa, Clandestine Cumbia, Cuban Hip Hop, Dub-Reggae, Reggaeton & Merengue with Samba, Funk Carioca, Latin House, Spanish Mestizo flavours & Tropical Rave. This is Música Latina Clandestina!!!
They also bring together some of the most accomplished & exciting up and coming Latin-centric live music acts. From traditional roots music, global fusions, electronic and Latin alternative their events aim to showcase the diversity of the Latin culture in London & the UK.
Their legendary film screenings regularly attract large numbers of people from across different communities and they have been successful at bringing a greater awareness to the vital struggles and issues relating to Latin America, and to provide a platform for NGOs, solidarity groups and other organisations to reach new audiences. Recently they have hosted events in conjunction with the Yasuni Green Gold movement, the Native Spirit Foundation and the Cuba Solidarity Campaign.
