Crucial demonstration at Fylingdales Star Wars base this Saturday. Bush plans to announce the start of Star Wars within weeks. Join the demo, help mark the start of Keep Space for Peace Week and raise your voice againgst Star Wars. With speakers including Thom Yorke and CND Chair Kate Hudson, entertainment and a peace march to the radar. All support needed!

THOM YORKE TO JOIN MAJOR NATIONAL CND DEMO AT FYLINGDALES TO OPPOSE THE START OF STAR WARS

Thom Yorke – lead singer of Radiohead – will speak at the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s "Switch Off Star Wars" demonstration at Fylingdales this Saturday (25th). The demonstration is being held on the first day of the International Keep Space for Peace week to mark George Bush’s planned announcement - expected within weeks - that phase one of his Star Wars system is up and running.

The demonstration takes place at Eller Beck, just down from the main entrance to the Star Wars base from noon until 4pm on the Saturday. There are coaches going from across the UK. Details can be found at the demo web site at www.cndyorks.gn.apc.org.

Fylingdales is an essential part of the US Star Wars system and is the one official Star Wars base in the UK so far. It is currently being upgraded to play a part in the system and will become Star Wars operational in a year or so’s time.

Thom Yorke has written a message on the Radiohead website urging people to join the protest by saying simply "Anyone want to come?" adding, with reference to the fact that’ll he making a speech at the demo "what should i say. i dont want to be rude. but they are about to announce star wars.."

There will also be speeches from the Chair of CND, Kate Hudson, and from Dave Knight - of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, which co-ordinates Keep Space for Peace Week, a march up the recently discovered public footpath right up to the radar, music, an exhibition, games, a drumming workshop and more.

This action is taking place at a crucial moment at the key Star Wars site in the UK. Bush’s plans to announce the start of Star Wars this Autumn bringing the threats of nuclear proliferation on Earth and a space weapons race in space closer to reality. It is important that we mark this moment and make clear our demands that the UK must withdraw support for this destabilising and destructive US project. If we allow the UK to keep supporting Star Wars then this country will become complicit in the development and deployment of space weapons – a whole new type of battlefield – and the creation of a system for nothing more than control and dominance.
