Deaths in Prisons Demonstration

DEMONSTRATION TO PROTEST AGAINST THE DEATH OF A WOMAN PRISONER


Victoria Robinson, aged 26, died on 2 February 2005, whilst in the 'care' of New Hall Prison, Nr Wakefield

Demonstration will take place on Thursday 10 February 2005 at 1.00 pm, for the duration of the afternoon, outside HMP New Hall, Dial Wood, Flockton, Wakefield, West Yorks, WF4 4AX.

Banners will be displayed, and flowers laid in memory of Victoria.
Reporters/photographers are welcome to attend

NOTES
Victoria Robinson is the first woman's death in prison this year.
In 2004, there were 13 self-inflicted deaths in women's prisons (including 3 at HMP New Hall).

The demonstration will be led by Pauline Campbell, mother of Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, 18, who died whilst in the 'care' of Styal Prison, Cheshire, in January 2003. (In 2003, 14 women prisoners died - a record high.)
Since Sarah Campbell's death on 18.01.03, a further TWENTY-SIX women prisoners have died. Figures refer to England and Wales.

Eleven prison death demonstrations were held outside women's prisons in 2004, resulting in Pauline Campbell's arrest on seven occasions.
Criminal trial (alleged obstruction of the highway outside Buckley Hall Prison, Rochdale, June 2004) takes place at Rochdale Magistrates' Court on 17/18 February 2005. Solicitors: Hickman & Rose, Human Rights specialists, London (Mr Noam Almaz).
