Police admit spy cameras in Hyde Park

A. Victim | 11.11.2005 13:48

Around midnight on the 8th of November, whilst walking back to my house in Hyde Park I happened upon some young chavs who decided to pull a knife on me and threatened to stab me if I refused to give them my phone. So I gave it to them, got home and reported it to the police.

For a change, being on the right side of the law, they were very helpful and took a full statement. However today, the 11th of November, two CID came round to 'have a little chat'. They proceded to, firstly, question the fact that the crime ever happened threatening a prison sentence of possibly 18 months, not very supportive you might think. In backing this up they let me know of the secret camaras they have installed around Hyde Park, including inside the houses of unsuspecting tenants. It would seem that the police have arangements with local landlords to have cameras pointing out onto the streets to detect and possibly solve crimes. They assured me that if the crime did happen, it would certainly be picked up on camera.

Why were we not told? is this another another piece of evidence for us to prove the development of a police state? do I have a camera in my house? what else are they watching?

Many questions, few answers. Next time you go outside feel paranoid because they are watching you!

Spy back on the police

We have our own cameras pointed at the entrances to the local police station so we can spy on the pigs.

Or prehaps they thought...

that you were just pulling an insurance rip-off and thought they would try to catch you out?

mechanisms of a police state

11.11.2005 16:40

You cannot even begin to comprehend just how many cameras and microphones are deployed around our major cities, and nodes of transport. I remember coming across an east asian electronics site years ago boasting about a massive massive contract they had fullfilled for cameras in lamp-posts around London. Believe me, in your most paranoid nightmares, you will seriously underestimate the scale of surveillance.

Now, for you NEW REICH dribblers, I said SCALE not effectiveness. Many many nations in the past has seen their interior security apparatus given free reign and extraordinary resources, most often in the level of records kept on people, and low level informants paid by the state. The usefullness of such acts are usually near zero (or actually counter-productive) but the interior spy-biz becomes self-propelling, expanding its functions to justify ever more expenditure.

THAT IS A VICIOUS CIRCLE FORMS- the more money they get, the more they can spy, and the more they spy, the more money they demand. The circle is an inevitability if political manipulation is being used to falsely give the appearance of a threat, and the security services are funded with no PROPER parliamentary scruntiny of their budget or deeds.

If you travel major distances within Britain, either by public transport or by car, you will notice that the means are in place to track your movement. At the train stations are face-recognition systems (very ineffective) intended to track the movement of all people to and from major population areas. They are described as standard security camera systems (unless you do a teeny bit of research) but the cameras are specialist face capture designs that mostly cover all entrances and exits, rather than worrying about interior spaces where crimes are likely to occur. Anti-crime cameras and face-recognition cameras (they dont do the recognising- merely the accurate framing) are of two entirely different designs.

Ironically, travel by car is more anonymous, despite the computer tracking system (license plate recognition) working infinitely better than the face recognition systems. Why? Because the car is tracked, but the passengers can make an effort NOT to be seen by the cameras.

However, the biggest method of tracking people is by their mobile phones. If your mobile phonbe is switched on, the phones position is almost instantly known by the security services. All mobile phone companies are obliged to provide continuous access to their computers for positional tracking by the government agencies. THIS DOES NOT COUNT AS PHONE TAPPING (NO MESSAGES ARE HEARD), SO LAWS LIMITING PHONE TAPPING DO NOT APPLY. The reason the government takes NO ACTION against pay-as-you-go phones being bought anonymously for cash is because such phones lull people into a TOTALLY false sense of security. The only safe way to use such a phone (say if you are a civil servant phoning details of Blair's crimes to a journalist) is to ensure the phone is ONLY EVER switched on for that one act, away from ANY location that could be associated with you (via location, car-tracking, face-tracking, camera surveillance etc), and then immediately destroyed or otherwise safely disposed of.

From the phone example above, you will understand that the security agencies track you be bringing multiple pieces of intelligence together. In other words, if you attempt to protect yourself by thinking "one-dimensionally", they defeat you by working in "two-dimensions".

Of course, some will say that such thinking is only for the paranoid. However, imagine all your movements being tracked if you keep an ON mobile phone with you. Better, imagine you are one of Blair's people thinking of using blackmail to control assets. Hey look, here's a married high-ranking conservative who just LOVES to visit massage parlors. If you KNOW where people go on a second by second basis, believe me, you have an extraordinary idea of what people do. Worse, historic data (acts you do when you don't think YOU matter) can come back to haunt you, if your circumstances change in the future (think new MP's etc).

Blair already informed you of how he has placed his people in the HIGHEST ranking positions in the police force by having them all trot along to the Houses of Common this week to point out that the thugs in blue are BLAIR'S thugs in blue. Here's a question- how many people become dictators WITHOUT having absolute control of the police and security services by placing loyal thugs into controlling positions.

Earlier this week, we had one such high-ranking thug STATE that British muslims that showed other muslims images of atrocities committed against muslims, were terrorists. We should not be surprised, since the police working under Hitler said the exact same thing about jews that tried to warn about Nazi atrocities.

You should note that parliament is in a state of panic and horror at Blair's tactic of using his police thugs to strongarm the legislative process. Under our constitution (what is left of it) the police are supposed to be the SERVANTS of the state. To see them permitted to lobby on mass has sent the death-cold sensation of an approaching police state reinforcing Blair's dictatorship running down the spine of each parliamentarian- rather like the Roman senate comtemplating the coming dictatorship of Caesar. These feeble men and women (just like those senators in our distant past) are now running up and down saying "I don't like it, it isn't right".

Blair is changing ALL the rules. I am aware that some of you here, despite NOT being NEW REICH members, arrogantly don't give a damn on the moron basis that the new rules are NOT effective. You are actually Blair's BEST servants. It is not about the effectiveness of the rules, merely about their existence. Dictators ARE NOT dictators because their rules are effective or powerful. Dictators are dictators because ONLY THEY get to set the rules that control us. Anyone that says "look at Blair, what an idiot" is a traitor to everything Western society has achieved over the last few hundred years, because they express the one sentiment that truly empowers him, and enables his ability to wreak havoc.

I am "twilight" because that is the name of the last light before the oncoming darkness. Once, man identified himself as "different" from all other species on this planet by conquering one darkness with his "invention" of fire. Today, a very different kind of darkness is about to consume all of us. THIS darkness requires that we sit back and watch Blair extinguish every "light" within our collective soul. This is no "night follows day". This is literally the end of everything, because we have lost our will to survive as a thinking species.

I am "Myshite" because I post the SAME longwinded shite after every "single" fucking article on Indymedia.

I am aware that some of you here, despite NOT being NEW REICH members, wish I would actually go and do something useful rather than spending pages and pages repeating MYSELF until you fall ASLEEP on your "keyboards".

i'm disappointed

12.11.2005 11:46

i thought twilight named themselves after a chocolate minty thing.

are we talking hyde park the park, or hyde park the area?

apparently one of the justifications for not putting lights on the paths in the park is that it would encourage ppl to walk around there after dark and they'd be more likely to get mugged..

hmmm.

Not sure what all that's got to do with me, seeing as I'm not English, nor any kind of British.
But I am bloody sick of endless 3-page rants from Mrs. "Twilight" in the comments, always banging on about PSYOPS and NEW REICH etcetera, on, let's see now, 351 articles so far:
 http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:www.indymedia.org.uk+TWILIGHT

It's become self-parody.

As for "relentlessly juvenile", well this is only the second time I've posted a comment. Not exactly "relentless".

And you don't get more self-importantly "juvenile" than this:
"I am "twilight" because that is the name of the last light before the oncoming darkness."

Get a grip, mate. You're nobody's fucking messiah but your own.
And if you want people to actually read what you write, try summarising a bit, eh.

watchin the detectives

12.11.2005 22:36

'American Anarchist' is espousing what I call the Dutch view of police surveillance, namely 'they are watching us and we are watching them, don't let it affect your behaviour". This is a healthy and reassuring attitude but I'm afraid its wrong. The truth is we are only getting glimpses of them and they have TV channels in our bedrooms. I know what I'm talking about, I first photographed a cop who had photographed me when I was 16. I have investigated the private lives of every company director who has investigated mine. I had security clearance to drive across military runways. It's not an equal practice though - they tend to have more 'resources' than we do. And they have less compunction in using their resources. You can bet if there is a technique that your "security services" / employer can use to investigate you, then they will already be using it. They see this as reasonable and obvious.

Being driven down a motorway yesterday I noticed how many of the road cameras were facing away from the road - more than half of them. Whatever the operators were zooming in on, it wasn't traffic. Have any of you been inside a police HQ lately - they have more screens than any broadcaster, and the UK sells more spy-cameras than anywhere else per head of population. Have you ever heard of a company that publicly refuses to spy on its own staff using covert surveillance ? They all do it. If it is legal then it is moral in their eyes, and if it is illegal then it is arguable. And up and down Britain thousands of sad men try and get glimpses into teenage girls lives from cameras hidden in bathrooms. Most of them broadcast at 2.4Ghz, you can walk down any street in the UK with a video scanner and pick up at least three spy-cam signals. Mostly bathrooms or bedrooms. Sick eh ?

Every tool is as good or bad as those who wield it. I took one hardcore activist to Maplins to equip them to video the Ulla Rodder trial, it cost less than a hundred quid for everything. It's pretty impossible to find a state-of-the-art bug but most bugs are easy to find with a scanner. I bugged Robin Cooks office for a month and never heard anything interesting. The real problem is awareness. After one of my actions got busted early on, we got a lecture on security only for someone to answer their mobile phone and start talking during the lecture. Duh!

From my own experience I'd say that the people who actually achieve significant results are the people who just do it and don't talk about it in advance. And the people who stay free don't boast.

Danny

some problems

13.11.2005 10:21

hmmm... so let me get this straight: you reported some "chavs" to the police, and now you're upset because we're living in a society that takes surveillance a little too seriously. is it the police's or your own attitudes that need to change?

not a fan of security
