Edith and her children (of Leeds) are due to be deported tonight (16/11) to Nigeria where they face death threats. They have been held in Yarlswood Detention Centre for the last two weeks since they were grabbed from their houses by police in a dawn raid. Please ring , fax or email Virgin to try and stop the deportation.
Edith arrived in the UK in 2002 having fled persecution in Kano, northern Nigeria. Having become pregnant out of wedlock to a married man, Edith’s Islamic family reported her to the Sharia police and she was arrested, sentenced to death by stoning and imprisoned.
Ringing airlines has stopped deportations in the past. Virgin are aware of the planned deportation tonight, please ring to raise your concerns:
1) The family are clearly distressed and may casue annoyance to passengers - this is in breach of Virgin conditions of carriage.
2) Edith's eldest child has not yet taken his anti-malrial medication.
Edith is due to be deported on the 10pm Virgin Atlantic flight VS651 to Lagos, Nigeria.
