Leeds Bradford Airport Gets The Glue Treatment

Sam Nexter | 18.05.2007 07:46 | Climate Camp 2006 | Climate Chaos

A local resident fed up with Leeds/Bradford Airport's irresponsible climate terrorism has glued herself to the front door - and taken the opportunity the spread the word about just how damaging and selfish flying is.

A woman climate activist blocked one of the entrances to Leeds/Bradford Airport
today, by supergluing herself in front of the revolving door. The protest
was against government's failure to curb the growth in air travel, in
spite of the fact that it is the fastest growing source of CO2 emissions
from the United Kingdom.

The activist handed the following statement to members of the public and
airport staff:-

“This is a peaceful act of civil disobedience. It is my intention to
disrupt the normal working of this airport because it is an environmental
hazard. In so doing, I am standing up for the poorest of the world's
people, and for future generations, who will bear the brunt of climate
chaos, caused by the affluent lifestyles and fossil fuel addiction of the
rich.

The planned threefold increase in air flights is environmental lunacy. If
runaway climate change is to be averted, global carbon emissions need to
peak this decade, and decline rapidly thereafter. There is no way that
this can be achieved without halting the explosion in air travel.
Leeds/Bradford Airport is planning to expand to 8million flights a year,
and if the public authorities refuse to curb this environmental menace,
then responsible local citizens must act.

I AM SUPERGLUED IN POSITION
PLEASE DO NOT HURT ME BY ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE ME!

I am not a terrorist.
The real terrorists are the people who are destroying the planet for profit"

Th activist was in place for about an hour before being removed by Police who, yet again, showed themselves eager to support criminal activity carried out by Big Business.

Plane Stupid here writing to support your this amazing action.

We would very much like to get in contact with this brave woman. She sounds like someone who could help our direct action campaign against the unsustainable growth of the aviation industry, a great deal.

If you know who she is or you are her please contact  info@planestupid.com or call 07948 219 493.

local?

Interesting, if she lives in HB then is she ‘local’? (its about an hours drive away I think). It’s a curious point because the article makes specific reference to her being local, as if that adds weight to the protest.

Is quite funny that the link goes to a newspaper which at the bottom has cheap holidays advertised…I say funny, I mean in a sad way…
