Turning debate into action

Dick Tracey | 08.11.2007 12:01 | Repression | Technology

On December 11 2007 at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester a private conference is being held and run by the Information Commissioner whose opic is the dangers of a surveillance society. Places for delegates are limited to a decidedly undemocratic 130 places. This is an ideal opportunity to challenge the domination of this debate by 'sensible liberals'.

Provocatively titled 'Turning debate into action', the conference represents an ideal opportunity for citizens to mobilize against the surveillance society rather than holing up in a conference centre to do some more talking about it.

According to the ICO website

"The conference will run from 10.15 until 16.30 followed by a drinks reception until 18.30 in the evening. There is no charge for attendance but places are limited to 130 delegates and will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis."

Registration
To register for the event, please complete the registration form below and email it to  dpc@ico.gsi.gov.uk with the subject heading ‘DP conference registration’ by the 23 November 2007.

Surveillance Society: Turning debate into action registration form (Word document)

Please note: Places are limited to 130 delegates and will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis."

Naturally we are not all going to get in hence the need for a spontaneous mobilization outside the venue with a view to blocking the road outside the centre.

Manchester NO2ID Meetings

11.11.2007 11:34

This event falls just after Manchester NO2ID's street stall in St. Anne's Square on Saturday 10th December from 1pm-3pm. It's also just before our monthly meeting on Wednesday 14th December, in the upstairs function room of the Town Hall Tavern from 7pm to 9pm.

We'll be happy to publicise and support any action that draws attention to this event and the issues it represents.
