The world's biggest pipe-laying ship, the Solitaire, has just arrived in Broadhaven Bay, Mayo. Security has significantly increased with vanloads of police; including special public order units.
Retired local teacher, Maura Harrington, has gone on hunger strike at the gates of the compound. She demands that the Solitaire leave the bay or else her hunger strike will continue. Local fisherman Pat O'Donnell has just been arrested whilst trying to defend his lobster pots that were in the path of the ship. He was in the process of taking legal action against Shell as he has the right to leave his pots there. Meanwhile, internet services in the area have been mysteriously cut which makes getting the news out even more difficult...please spread the word, post on lists and most importantly either get over to Mayo or take solidarity action at home. Shell garages, Irish Embassy, Shell HQ, Allseas Offices (who own solitaire) in London...
Shell can only hold onto the rented Solitaire for a limited period of time and all efforts to hinder its progress will seriously damage Shell's plans. ANY disruption provides us with a real opportunity to delay the project significantly.
The choppy waters of Broadhaven Bay will hopefully aid us in our actions but we need you too!
