One of England's richest women hands out 78p to some pensioners

Kirkby Times | 09.04.2004 10:01 | Liverpool

The queen was up here in Liverpool today, visiting 'us' to hand out 78p each to carefully selected pensioners in some daft ceremony in Liverpool cathedral. All the snobs and middle class yuppies here will be queuing up worship the queen of scroungers and join in with the local do gooders and religious nutters to take part.

The archbishop of Liverpool and the rest of the 'god squad' will all be there paying respects to a women who's never done a decent days work in her life. It's another chance to dress up and show off for all of Liverpool's fading celebrities, politicians, business leaders and other people who shore up the sick Royal myth. Another chance to show they are with 'the establishments' and another brownie point towards an MBE or even an OBE! You can always rely on a big fancy royal 'vip' gig at Liverpool cathedral to draw in the hypocrites.

What's all this nonsense about 'Maundy Money'?
The Thursday before Easter is known as 'Maundy Thursday' Christians remember it as the day of the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as the Eucharist. It is the day that Jesus was betrayed by Judas.Even Judas got more than 78p!

A weird ceremony
A weird ceremony is held each year at a cathedral, it involves the distribution of so called 'Maundy Money' to 'deserving' senior citizens (one man and one woman for each year of the sovereign's age), usually chosen for having done service to their community or for kissing enough backsides. They receive one red, which has a lousy 78p in it, and one white purse, which contain coins made especially for the occasion. The white purse contains one penny for each year of the monarch's reign, not much of a sacrifice for the Queen is it? - The tight old cow probably gets a tax break on it as well. You know what the rich are like!

People stay away from royal visit.
The Liverpool Echo reported 'Lime Street station, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh's train arrived at 10.40am, there were only around 100 people gathered', and the Echo went on further to add that "but some appeared to be waiting for trains rather than the royal couple". Oh Dear. That's not exactelly a display of Liverpool's fondness for the Royals!

Bling!
The Echo does make a point of telling us in today's paper edition (08 04 04) that there were 'thousands' for this visit. No doubt the Middle Class of Liverpool see the gleam of a shiny medal as tempting, what self respecting middle class man or woman about the town could pass up the opportunity to impress their mates at a 'dinner party' by whipping out a shiny OBE? It's a form of Middle Class 'Bling'. Shiny stuff to impress your mates with.

More Police than Crowds!
Only 300 people bothered to gather outside the cathedral, crowds of thousands were predicted! The Echo reported, somewhat enthusiastically that she was "greeted with cheers". She was met at the station by our soon to be departed Chief Constable, Norman 'I'll have an OBE' Bettison. Norman would have been dressed in his finest: buttons and boots polished. 'on parade' as he'd term it. He would have forewarned officers to be on their finest behaviour, no truncheons pulled out for this mob. It's great how the police can always be seen all over the place when a Royal visits - we bet they painted Lime St Station as well and further wager that there was toilet roll in whatever 'throne' Lizzy may have had to make her way to. The police officers on duty today, were, for the most part, twiddling their thumbs all day.

The Queen is one of the richest women in the Country, to have her dishing out silly purses, one with fake money and the other with 78 lousy pence, is a bit sick. This ceremony used to see the king or queen wash the feet of a few chosen subjects. This ended a long time ago with James II. It's a pity the Royals didn't end their practice of being Royals, that would a far better gift to the old aged pensioners.

A Dysfunctional Family
Others may disagree but, as seen by the dismal crowds today, most of us think the Royals are part of a sick past which has no real place in a modern society. The past few years have seen disgrace after disgrace bought on the royal household. It's a family of freaks who have no business trying to come across as figureheads or examples to the rest of us. The Queen spoke of 'dark forces' in UK society, this was like some kind of a veiled threat to Princess Diane's ex Butler. Prince Charles has been accused of wanting to kill his former wife - his wife, who died mysteriously in a car crash - made public the fact she was worried about being killed in a car crash just circumstantial evidence though eh? Prince Phillip is an old embittered racist. A Greek racist, not an English one! A refugee who came here penniless and impressed the queen so much she married him. At least he'd have enough targets for laughs here in the World in One City, the congregation was said to be a 'multi faith' congregation. Prince Andrew is like a version of Tim 'Slight nice but Dim', but his ex wife carried on the old royal tradition of washing feet. Prince Edward would have signed on for longer than any of us here in Kirkby only he had pocket money which made our giros look like a cabbies tip! The rest of the Royals, Harry Pothead, and Willy or Won't he - are spoilt rich brats - ok when they were kids but they'll be infected by the Royal Arrogance and are already talking of actually 'serving us' - serving themselves more like it..

No Invite.
Regretfully, Kirkby Times was NOT invited to be at this ceremony today. The invite, much anticipated, never came. But surely the call of the medal awaits me. An OBE would be a great honour. It would mean a lot to me and no real value could be put on such a privileged acknowledgement. It's priceless. Well, almost.

I could always get a few quid for it , auctioning it on 'e-bay' to pay off this gas bill I have.

Other Laughs.......

There were 18 mounted police on duty whose horses sported special 'Capital of Culture' insignia on their saddle cloths.

School-kids were dragged along to make up the crowds (they always are, generally by some OBE seeking Tory Headmaster/mistress)

More police than well-wishers!

We also wonder what the pensioners bought with their 78p, the money is equivilant to the years the monarch has lived - every year it goes up a penny. If the Queen reigns for another 22 years, the 'lucky' oap's - always carefully chosen, will be able to receive the 'big' total of One whole English pound!
