Namibian Seal Cull/Harvest - Killing baby seals for profit

Nikki Botha | 05.07.2007 16:09 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | London

80 000 seal pups to be killed for their pelts, 6000 bulls for their genitalia. Namibia systematically exterminating the Cape Fur Seal species.

Each year, despite international outcry, Namibia harvests thousands of nursing seal pups: the only country in the world to do so. Last ... all » year, the quota was 85 000 pups (killed for their pelts) and 7000 bulls (killed for their genitalia - exported to the East as an aphrodisiac). And each year, sealers are unable to make the quota as there are no pups left to be killed.

This year the quota has been set to 80 000 pups and 6000 bulls, and Namibia refuses to stop this harvest. This harvest is the second largest in the world next to the annual seal hunt/harvest/cull in Canada.

Boycott action will be launched against Namibia (tourism, industry and businesses) and we will persist in doing so until Namibia abolishes their yearly slaughter.

For more information please visit  http://www.sealalert.org or visit the boycott site (soon to be launched as of 05.07.07) at  http://www.boycottnamibia.co.za Petition action is available at  http://www.uncaged.co.za

Should you wish to see a clip from the cull, please email me or look at the video on  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2431581037762214099

Yes of course it is slaughter. I agree with you 100%. But technically, killing on this scale for profit is called a harvest. Culling is used for population control. The Namibian Government calls it a cull, and the sealers call it a harvest.

I call it slaughter, murder, sin....

So if you feel this strongly about it, tell people. Get people to boycott Namibia, get your press involved, let's tell the world this is not a harvest or a cull: it is a slaughter that HAS to be stopped.
