Labour councillor addresses Gaza demo 3 jan 2009

James taylor | 03.01.2009 19:46 | Anti-racism | Palestine | Social Struggles | Birmingham

Afzal Khan, former Labour mayor of Manchester addressed the Gaza demo in Albert square, Manchester today.

Councillor Afzal Khan, former Labour mayor of Manchester and former copper with the GMP addressed the crowds that gathered at Albert square in Manchester after the march from All Saints Park.

Despite being a member and hence representative of the ruling Labour party which supports Israel, he was invited to speak and given a platform by the SWP who through the Stop the War Coalition have hijacked the demo previously organised by the 'Gaza Solidaity Committee'.

Despite Labour a few days ago opposing a UN Security Council resolution condemning the bombing of Gaza, the SWP opportunists have allowed Labour to appear progressive yet again. This should not be allowed to happen.

No platform for racists. No to Labour. Boycott Israel.

Theres some universalists from Old labour battling& afew in the police,he maybe

03.01.2009 22:51

one of them. Why is he specifically a racist?, come on dont belittle racism or fascism. Tonny Benn, Ken livingstone& Galloway maybe in labour, but they are more opposed to capitalism by far than majority of other MPs. Iam for real direct democracy not just most bs councillors& mps we have now, come on though have you any evidence if his racism. I know a pakistani taxi driver in Nottm who comes from one of the poorest areas there who organised 6 coaches today, he is radical, non racist & interested in direct democracy,he is also in the cooperative party which is still part of the labour party, now under new labour control, are u saying he is racist2?

Benn, Livingston & Galloway all multi-millionaire champagne socialist tossers

04.01.2009 10:35

Oh yeh they sure do oppose capitalism, why not when they each have a few million in the bank. They are all self serving bullshit talking movement suppressing dick heads. Open your eyes to these stinking vermin!

@narchist

millionaires?,they were on demo, galloway was thrown to the ground by riot police

05.01.2009 05:06

with his daughter. I doubt their millionaires, but then they are very popular & sell alot of books etc & if they are I bet they do better with it than 99%& give most away. I dont like any of em, but none of them are fascist & this articles smells like shit, especially as James hasnt answered my questions.
I had more respect for the hip hop poet, I guess it was Ben Z? but couldnt see he came out with the best, sounded like a anarchist.
Shame there werent anarchists, IMCers on the stage & someone from Green party, I was shouting from the side to go to the embassy now, eventually a speaker took up the call Galloway yeh before that I thought he was abit of a arse, take of your blinkers, vermin?
Why are some anarchists such purist bores?

Andy

Also I did notice any London anarchists there & I know many, I bet they were

05.01.2009 05:09

shame they werent on plaform for ffs& anarcho presence was apparent or am I wrong?

andy

The reason there were few anarchists there was because

05.01.2009 19:27

1 Maybe they did not want to be on a pointless trot STW piglike/stewarded demo
2 Maybe they did not want to be surrounded by religious nutters shouting death to the infidels
3 Maybe they did not want to be surrounded by middle class very confused A to B demonstrators
4 What the fuck will it change with a few thousand people when nothing changed with a few million?

Andy I know thats your ball but it aint mine. You love the egotistical Galloways, Benns and Livingstones of the fucked up Brirtish movement who only care for their own careers (not forgetting Galloways big brother episode) and their own bank balances.

So Andy you stick with your pathetic lot §nd let the Anarchists do their thing behind the scene which trust me will seek proper justice for the oppressed.....

By the way maybe you should check the incomes of these parasites!
