Financial interest

22.10.2010 11:13

Most of the people on these demos will be public sector staff worried about their jobs, not our services.

If the public had seen any significant improvement in services over the last few years while New Labour put 800,000 plus extra staff on the public payroll then perhaps many people would be worried about the cuts. But the extra staff have at best been completely useless and have cost us lots of money.

And don't forget that many of the new staff New Labour hired were employed to carry out all the nasty, illiberal and authoritarian new laws and schemes so beloved of that vile regime.

Who is crying for the workers made redundant because the ID card scheme has been scrapped? Not me!

Pete

What about welfare?

22.10.2010 20:15

Sorry, but that last comment is totally questionable. The cuts in the CSR are to welfare, education, local gov't - basically what's left of the civil society in this country. If they go through, there's a fairly high chance, given what's happened before in similar situations, that the economy will tailspin (and given the kind of factional apathy that above commenter and others have displayed, that'll probably lead to some kind of corporate-fascist takeover while everyone else condemns each other for caring about where their own food comes from).

Sure Labour employed more people than the Tories did, that's ideology for you. If they didn't, they wouldn't even be able to call themselves 'New Labour'. That the Labour Party leadership were too distracted, arrogant, giddy or plain malicious to put these people to good use is just what we should expect from them by now. But we can't throw good people and their children on the scrapheap because Westminster didn't produce the right policies. They never do.

The bankers caused this global crisis, and the only way for people to survive it with any self-respect is to stand together and fight together.
