takeaction | 16.09.2003 16:41 | Ecology | Globalisation | Oxford

TUESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER AT 7.30PM
FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, ST GILES, OXFORD

DON'T FUND THE PIPELINE OF MASS DESTRUCTION!
BP, YOUR MONEY AND HUMAN RIGHTS

with
MARK THOMAS and
Kerim Yildiz, Kurdish Human Rights Project;
Hannah Griffiths, Friends of the Earth;
and Nick Hildyard, The Cornerhouse.

organised by Baku Ceyhan Campaign (01865 200550) and Rising Tide (01865 241097)

FREE ENTRANCE! Donations appreciated...

BP wants your money to help it build a massive oil pipeline from Azerbaijan through Georgia to Turkey. The Baku-T'bilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline threatens local communities and the environment, and could worsen human rights abuses and conflict in the region. BP has applied for funding from multilateral banks financed by us, the public. These banks will take their decision whether to back the pipeline at the end of October 2003. Join us in saying NO! to public money for this human rights and environmental disaster.

Pipeline demo, EBRD, London, Sept 26th 2003

17.09.2003 11:57

Don't forget there's also a Baku pipeline demo at midday for 2 hours on Friday 26th September, outside the European Bank for Recon & Dodgibiz (EBRD). See baku.org for details...

Great Meeting, now lets do something

This issue is something I've heard about for a while, but until last night, I didn't realise quite how ludicrous the pipeline is. The meeting was a good balance of information, interesting and entertaining speakers (who needs Mark Thomas anyway?) and info on what we can do about it. Have just emailed my MP and am planning to go to the EBRD protest next Friday. I hope that the enthusiasm that was generated by the end of the meeting isn't lost, and that people believe we can make a difference. For me, this is a great issue to campaign on, because in a single, very easy to understand issue (oil pipeline bad!), it links the campaigns of human rights, environment, anti-militarism and anti-corporatism.

Ian,

I am glad you see the light at the end of shithole. You certainly are swimmign the right way.
Try looking into BP, Gordon Brown's 'faction' of New Labour and Iraq/Kurish saga.

There is a pigscum in your doorstep.

Take care
