Army Presentation Team To Visit Oxford

ciderpunx | 26.09.2003 11:41 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Oxford

In an cynical marketing ploy the 'Army Presentation Team' will come to Oxford on 12 November 2003.

Based in Sandhurst, the Army Presentation Team's stated aim is:
"to promote a positive image of the Army in the local community"

Which it achieves by:
"speaking to selected groups of opinion formers throughout the United Kingdom"

They will be convieniently glossing over their role in the mass slaughter in Iraq and Afghanistan ( http://www.iraqbodycount.net/), and the fact that they frequently murder their own recruits ( http://www.epolitix.com/bos/epxnews/00000000677E.htm).

We are now supposed to believe that we have a 'caring, sharing' sort of army and not a bunch of thugs with guns fighting for the ruling classes in their battle with the poor.

See their disturbing propaganda here:

Perhaps the kids will find them again!

Didn't the last British Army recuiting exercise get stoned in Broad Street. Didn't the police fail to intervene in the sustained barracking the school kids had given the fresh faced young recruiting soldiers? They're not welcome in Basra, and until they leave Basra they're not welcome in Oxford either. They're gonna need so many riot police to protect them, no recruit will be able to get near their stall. Will they ever learn?

PS. Ain't there a law against the Army bring their automatic rifles into a shopping area. I doubt it helps local businesses, and must scare the poop out of tourists.

Oh well. Looks like we'll have to let them know what Oxford thinks of mass-murderers...

Follow the link given in the original post, and you can eventually get to:
 http://www.army.mod.uk/apg/armytouragenda.html

The only info this page gives is:
10 Nov Oxford

it also says:
'If you would like to attend a presentation, click here to contact us.'
 http://www.army.mod.uk/apg/armybookingform.html

Unfortunately this doesn't help much; not only does it not provide details, but it conflicts with the original date of 12 Nov.

Perhaps the original poster could clarify all this? Or perhaps someone should contact the Army PT and simply ask. Their contact details are at:

Army Presentation Team Visit To Oxford

13.10.2003 08:44

Ciderpunx, Alfie, general strike et al, thank you for giving the Army Presentation Teams' visit to Oxford some publicity. The visit on 12th November is not for recruiting purposes but simply to inform taxpayers about their Army, and hopefully to clear up misperceptions that occasionally arise about the Army. The details of the visit noted by general strike are correct and if any of you would like to come along and listen to what we have to say you can apply for invitations from our website.

ARMY PRESENTATION

15.11.2003 08:35

I went to see the Army Presentation. It was good - some honest answers to honest questions. It's a pity that people who hold views against our Army don't have the courage of their convictions and go along to these presentations to find out more for themselves; some of the rubbish written here would be seen for just what it is. Ciderpunx; if you think their website is disturbing, don't get out of bed in the mornings mate, there's a whole disturbing world out there!
